Giggling I come to a gradual halt and I smile to both of the other shoppers, "Okay, now remember, dark goes with dark, light with light, white never classes with brown unless upside down~." Then I let go of them and skip ahead. "Oh and don't forget the greys~."

"Grey is such a wonderful color," he agreed, smiling and flipping his hair out of his face again. "It's so... versatile, and it has so many shades."

"That it does," Shiki agreed and walked passed him, "Sometimes it's hard to distinguish one from the other." She began to look at the different colors of carpet.

I run my hands along some of the show casing carpet squares, "Something soft, but not too soft~."

Shiki's eyes wandered over the carpet samples, looking for one she thought would fit best. She rejected a few of the ones she saw and considered one or two others. As she ran her finger along the edge of one, she felt a sudden coldness creep up on her. No, she wasn't physically cold...emotionally cold. Why, exactly, did she feel that way? It was strange, completely out of the blue.
Something flashed across her vision and she blinked. Great, what was she imagining now? Oh, would you stop it? Nothing's going to jump out at you or anything. Quit getting yourself worked up. But this coldness wasn't hers, was it? Distract yourself.
"What about that one?" She pointed to one above where Namine was looking, not even realizing if it was an obvious rejection or not. She'd rather face embarrassment though than worrying over nothing. It would pass, she was probably just jumpy.

Now, I know I heavily depend on Shiki for a lot. She may not know this, but when I want something normal to happen. She's always right there, like an angel sent from heaven, truly amazing in her kindness. But sometimes, her tastes amaze me. I stare, trying to cover my horrified expression with a smile, at what I can honestly saw is a recreation of vomit orange.
A shaky laugh leaves me, "I don't think... That will match anything." Other than what obviously will be my returning breakfast if I stare much longer at that horrendous color. Its was almost as bad as seeing bloo-
Now don't think that, or you'll actually get sick. Think of something pretty... And not related to orange, how about... How about... No, no that either, green is too close to vomit... Um.. Lets see, ah yes...
"Blue," I smile to myself. "Like a stormy blue, but clear, with out the storm." Nodding I look at the carpet Shiki is standing in front of and smile.
"How about silverish purplish metalicish in color?"

Shiki easily knew that she'd now made a fool of herself and disturbed Namine in the process. One look at what she had been pointing at told her why. Of all the random samples, her finger just had to point at that one, didn't it? She nodded in agreement with Namine, "Yeah, this one is much better than that." She turned to it, pretending to look it over.
But really, she was starting to realize that she wasn't imagining things. The coldness grew and she tried to shove it aside. It didn't work, and another flash crossed her eyes. Sound was blending in her ears, and she knew she had to get out. Now. Normally, she'd never leave her friend with a stranger. But she'd have to kick herself later if something happened.
"Oh, I just remembered I wanted to check something out while I was here. It's just down that way so I'll be back in a minute, okay?" Shiki flashed a smile and walked off without waiting for an answer. Once she turned a corner she walked faster, almost jogging. The sounds were growing louder, and with no other choice she turned into an aisle, which was thankfully empty. She leaned up against a wall to keep herself from falling, then buried her face in her hands. The grip she had on reality was slipping, and she was shoved into something she couldn't understand. Images flashing behind her closed eyes too fast for her to figure out. Words she couldn't make out filled her ears. But she recognized the voices and fear welled up inside her. Leave me alone!

I frown after Shiki, is she alright? My first instinct is to follow, my second one is to not. She obviously didn't want me around if she just went off like that. I'll have to ask her later about it, I guess.
I turn to Josh with a smile, "So... What do you think?"

There was... he paused. Something was disturbed, though he couldn't lay his finger on what. IT was right there, as if hovering just outside of his mind.
He saw Shiki turn and walk away, leaving him alone with the blonde, and he crossed his arms and watched her go, intense.
"Something's wrong with Shiki," he said to her, not looking away from where Shiki had disappeared between the aisles.

"You noticed too then," I frown deeply now. "It must be serious then... Someone she barely knows noticing that as well..."
A sigh escapes me, "I wonder... How long she's been... Acting strange."

He held his tongue about his previous interaction with the other Shiki, and also about the sense of foreboding that had passed over him.
It was as if... as if the girl's Soul were becoming unstable. THat wouldn't be a good sign.
He shook his head. "Who knows?" He glanced back at Namine, then out to the aisle again. "Should we follow her?" he mused aloud.

It doesn't take a moment of thought as my voice drops into an almost emotionless state as I whisper back, "I'm quite sure she doesn't want us to..." Even if she is braking she would be upset, wouldn't she? We would be invading her life with out permission, I've done more than my fair share of that thank you... I'm not doing it to someone I care about when I have the choice not to.

He nodded. "Of course," he said, as if to himself, then turne back to the colors.
An artist's eye picked out a thousand combinations and discarded them. He was no master, true, but he liked to pride himself as having an eye for the dramatic.
"This person you're decorating for," he said, turning back to Namine, forcing normality into his voice. "When you think of him, what colors come to mind? You mentioned a metallic grey-purple?"

"Oh, Neku?" I think to myself before. "Honestly... I can relate any and all colors to him... But mostly I see him in his normal get up of purple-grey and blue-grey with his shocking orange hair disraying everywhere... And his soul stealing, blue eyes smiling~." I sigh to myself.
"Yeah."

He was so worried about Shiki that he almost missed the name. Almost, but not quite - he passed over it for a second or two, before whirling quickly around to face Namine.
"Neku?" he asked. "You know someone named 'Neku'?" His posture was intense, a far cry from his previous lazy, relaxed stance.
Of course, it couldn't be the same Neku. Couldn't be the Partner he'd had to abandon. This was another world, a parallel, a shadow so far gone that almost nothing was the same as what he knew, aside from the same basic structures and facts.
And yet...
