The OtherWorld is a parallel dimension, similar to Hell, but not quite the same as the Biblical version. It is home to demons, beings of terrible visage and frightening power that are always seeking to cross over into our world.
Separating our world and the OtherWorld from each other is the veil, a barrier of space and time and something we don't quite understand that keeps things on the right sides. Unfortunately, there are times and places where the veil thins. Right here, right now, in Urbadelphia, is one of those, and where the veil thins, demons break through.
The OtherWorld is a strange and twisted place, overlaying our own world in such a way that the scenery is both eerily familiar and completely alien. The air shimmers and twists, and familiar things are twisted into nightmarish visions; the OtherWorld itself is a living, breathing entity that seeks to swallow all who enter it. The scenery moves and shifts, seeking to block intruders, or worse, destroy them.
One of the worst phenomena of the Otherworld is that of being "drawn through" - when an Otherborn or halfer (or even, though very rarely, a normal human) is pulled fully through the Veil to the other side. During a Crossing, every Otherborn experiences the risk, though those with more power seem to have a greater likelihood of it happening to them. The same goes for halfers, though with even greater risk - popular theory says that those Otherborn with the most power are more connected to the Otherworld, and thus, the Otherworld attempts to reclaim what is part of it, even as it tries to eradicate the side of them that is human.
Few who enter the OtherWorld ever manage to find their way out again; those who do are often drastically changed by the visit.
