A small crossing. Just outside Urbadelphia, just a small grunt of a demon who had somehow managed to get into the human world of it’s own accord. Breathing in the rich air it chuckles to itself manically believing that alone it could take out the human race and be a hero. While it dry washes it’s hands together and fantasizes about it’s goals it doesn’t see a large object flying from it’s side, suddenly, a car crashes into the demons head and kills it instantly. A blonde haired man approaches the car with a cigarette between his lips and his hands in his pockets, placing a hand against the bumper of the car he flips it over to find the dead demon squished into oblivion.
Satisfied with his work, the man turns around and takes a leisurely stroll back towards the city. His name is Shizuo Heiwajima, a demon hunter in Urbadelphia who has lived an incredibly hard life. He’s a halfer you see, his father was a demon and his mother was a human, and despite what you’d think the pair lived in complete harmony like any other normal couple would. They loved Shizuo as much as they could, making sure his every need was tended to, but as the young boy grew older, he started to show amazing strength that allowed him to pick up objects far greater than his own body weight and when he flew into a rage (as children do) that strength was increased even further, usually leading to whatever objects he was holding at that time to be snapped in two.
One day when Shizuo was just five, his father fell ill, an illness that led him to randomly discharge large amounts of energy in the nearby vicinity. Shizuo tended to his father, his demonic blood keeping him safe from the energy waves, but after a few weeks of care his mother fell ill also. Whilst he stayed at home, Shizuo’s uncle took her to hospital only to find out that his mother had suddenly developed an aggressive, never before seen form of cancer that was rapidly eating away at her body cells. She was predicted another week to live at the most, but none of the doctors were sure.
Shizuo abandoned his father to be at his mothers side and it was (quite literally) impossible for the doctors to remove the young boy from the room. After one week, four days and nineteen hours, his mother passed away. Shizuo was completely inconsolable and stormed home in the dead of night, walking into his fathers room he saw the man laid there coughing his lungs out, also on deaths door, but Shizuo wasn’t going to let him leave that easily, not after what he’d done to his mother…
That night, Shizuo took a pillow to his father’s face and smothered him whilst he slept. It only took a few minutes in the man’s current state. Shizuo had acted out of rage and on impulse, and it wasn’t until afterwards that he realised what he had done. So that night, Shizuo wrapped his fathers arms around him and cried himself to sleep, the thoughts of being alone warping his mind.
Days passed, then weeks, months and then finally years. Shizuo grew up hating demons, blaming them for both the death of his mother and his father, his rage grew even worse through his teenage years and he spent every hour of every day that he wasn’t sleeping or eating chasing down and killing demons. But then one day, on June 14th when Shizuo was nineteen, he was given information via his cell phone about a demon whom he may be interested in hunting down. Shizuo met the demon atop a car park who turned out to be none other than Izaya Orihara, it was then revealed that it was Izaya who gave him the information over his cell and that he also knew of Shizuo’s past.
Flying into a rage, Shizuo chased after Izaya and every time Izaya went down a floor, Shizuo would literally punch his way down, eventually through this process the pair had managed to destroy the entire car park before Izaya managed to escape. It was then that Shizuo swore to hunt down Izaya, beat him to a pulp and find out what he knew.
The pair would encounter one another countless times over the next five years and many buildings would suffer because of these meetings. Now 24, Shizuo is still hunting down his nemesis.
Throughout the years he’s earned his reputation as a Demon Hunter as well as being a snappy dresser, always seen in a bartender outfit that his cousin Kasuka gave him the 185cm tall, 70kg Shizuo is always on the lookout for demons, with a cigarette between his lips and his fists at the ready.
