Sora remembered her story about her parents but she had clearly left this out of the original story.
"Your parents...made a deal." he repeated slowly, "and you don't have any clue what it was about?"

"All I know is that it involves a lovely demon relative of mine who wants me in the Otherworld. Apparently he 'owns' me now. Whatever that means."
She thought over the day that she'd finally been told she was safe.
"He won't be able to come after you anymore, at least for now."
"But how did you do it?"
"That story's for another time, Shiki."
She hadn't been threatened for three years. But still, when would that time be up?

"Slavery." Sora said, "And that's very illegal, even for demons. There's some divine force that keeps Otherborns safe from that, that's why Half-Demons are usually slaves. If the Devil knew about this your relative would be in trouble."
Then he paused and added in an afterthought, "Course he could be turning a blind eye to the deal too, he is the Devil..."

"I think the Devil probably would've known. After I ran away he started to chase me; I was always stuck in Crossings that were most likely his fault. Then the Network found me and...I don't even know from there. The details were kept from me. All I know is they did something, and I haven't heard from him in years."
Mr. H why wouldn't you tell me?
"That's great, I'm supposed to be a slave. Wonder what they wanted from this, the bastards." Shiki didn't care what she called her parents; if she hated them before, she despised them now.

"Maybe, I dunno what he wanted. You are Otherborn, so maybe they didn't want to risk slavery...could be something else." Sora wondered, "why are you in trouble or something?"

Shiki shook her head, "No, not now. But if he ever finds me again, I'm gonna be." She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, "I just want answers mostly."

Sora looked at her for a moment, in deep thought before he suddenly said.
"What if I could track him down, this demon relative of yours and get answers from him?"

She looked at him, surprise written on her face. "You really could..." She paused, "I can't ask you to do that."

"Good thing you're not asking, I am offering." he assured. "There is a difference."
He then added, "Look, it's my job. It's what I do, I track demons, I send them back to Hell. And if it helps an innocent person or two and gets them out of a bad deal that's an added bonus."

Right as she opened her mouth to say no, she closed it. What had she been telling him this whole time about offers? Crap.
She sighed, "Great, this whole time I've been arguing with you about not taking up offers. And now I'm gonna end up as a hypocrite if I refuse. This is ironic."

"Yeah payback stings doesn't it," he smirked before his expression went serious. "Seriously, I will do it if I can, and I can."

"There's no way to talk you out of this, huh?" She stared at him, "Just please be careful."

"I can't make any guarantees, on both departments. But-" he cut off a potential interruption. "I will try my best. Okay cowgirl?"

"Alright," She agreed finally. "Sora, thank you. For everything. I expected to help you, but looks like it went the other way around."

Sora made a small smile, she was trying to help and he really liked that...so he didn't have the heart to tell her again that no one could save him. So instead he smiled it off.
"Hey it's what I do." he looked at the time. "I think we lingered in this coffee shop long enough don't you?"
