Demons are the beings that live in the Otherworld. Twisted and inhuman every one, most never get to see the other side of the Veil, for which the inhabitants of Earth are thankful. The more powerful the demon, the more humanoid it looks, though none could ever be mistaken for anything else in their true forms.
That is why most of the more powerful demons have human disguises, guises which they assume through illusion, shapeshifting, or simple mind alteration when they cross through the Veil, in order to remain undetected by the humans they walk among. These demons often prefer to seed destruction in more subtle manners, through corruption, seduction, and manipulation, rather than destruction in its purest form.
Lower demons are unable to assume these guises, and, being in general much stupider than their 'betters', generally don't care. These are the kind who do the most physical damage, and most have a penchant for wanton destruction. For the Otherborn, these are the easiest to find and deal with.
Lowest in the ranks of the Otherworld are the Halfers, those misfortunate enough to be born to a demon and a human parent. Should one of these be born in the Otherworld, or dragged into it, they are enslaved by the demons. Those Halfers who manage to escape are often mentally unstable, and those born in the human world (and know about their lineage) are extremely careful never to be drawn through during a Crossing. They have the most power of all Otherborn, but hold the most likelihood of being drawn through, so they take the most risk. Some Otherborn don't trust them; many pity them. Occasionally, the Watchers will organize a raid to try and free them, should the Otherworld's shifts bring one of their encampments close to the other side of the Veil.
