Hm, a decent day for once, that's rare nowadays. I sat down on the hood of an abandoned car not far out of town and unzipped my hoodie. Although paranoia hit me here and there and got me to check my phone for any jobs from Izaya, I was in a good mood.
I placed my guns into my backpack and placed it on the ground before leaning back. Nothing could ruin the moment.
After a while I heard footsteps walking up to the car. Crap, did this car belong to someone? It's been here for three weeks and everything was taken out of the car so I thought someone gave up on it.

"What the..." says a man's voice. He has red hair and a freckled face. Despite being only 5'4" tall and very slender he walks with confidence, but without swagger. He is wearing clean tan overalls with the logo on the front pocket stating "Oilcan". The name on the back reads "OMW Tow and Salvage." He seems incredibly nervous for a second. Then takes a deep breath and asks. "This car yours? Or are you just out here to destroy it? Or did you have something to do with the disappearance of its owner?"

I jumped off the car's hood and grabbed my backpack. "None of the above, I was just sitting on it. You here to take it?" I look over at his tow truck and back at the abandoned car. "Whatever, all yours."

He looks at her sideways out of hazel green eyes watching as she grabs her pack and moves away. "No offense." he calls after her. "We got the contract to tow, so away, away, away she will go." He grins. "If you know the owners, you can have them call us." he hands her a card that reads "OMW Tow and Salvage - If you are in trouble I am On My Way."

Unsure what to say, I just stood there somewhat flustered. I took the card carefully from his hand and looked at the strange man. "Alright then... Thanks?" I didn't own a car so I didn't really need it but I put it in my pocket anyways. "So, you guys only just got a call about this?" It's been here since I first moved in the city, seems strange that someone would only call it in just now.

He smiles. "Actually, we get called when the car has been marked by the police does not get moved in 72 hours after they mark the tires. Takes them a while sometimes to get around to it. We-re new in town so we are at the bottom of the totem pole as far as companies. Guess no one else wanted this one." The steps up to the car and looks it over. "Pretty well stripped, but we will turn you into a thing of beauty, won't we." He caresses the hood of the car. "At least, once all the salvage paperwork has been gone through." "Name's Oilcan." He squints at her... "You aren't from around here are you?"

Huh, he must really love cars. The way he treated this piece of junk showed it.
When he questioned "That obvious? No, I'm not from here. I used to live in a town north of here called Isle. Moved here only a few weeks ago." I looked off a bit towards the northern horizon. "I'm Aya by the way."

I was just walking through when I noticed the tow truck and driver... and Aya. I'd seen her and Lea hanging around some, and the word was that she'd also been seen around Izaya's place, so to me, she was someone of interest.
Not that kind of interest; she's all Lea's. But the fact that she was my best friend's not-my-girlfriend and in Izaya's pocket... I was curious.
And she didn't look all that comfortable with this guy.
"Hey, Aya!" I called, walking up. "What's up? You break down or something?"
I didn't really know she had a car, but that's what it certainly looked like.

"Nice to meet you." He told Aya. "I need you to understand something... I believe in live and let live. I can understand why our world might be a good place to take a vacation. I got no problem with that. But I just moved to this city, and I plan to make a home here. And I don't want any trouble. You leave us alone, we leave you alone." He looked up at the new kid wearing the headphones. Didn't look like any trouble there. Resolutely, he walked away and went back to the job of getting the old junker set up for the tow. Casually, he walked over to the truck and hopped in. Picking up the mic for the CB he whispered, hoping neither of thos outside could hear him. "Tinker, you got your ears on?" Tinker: Yeah, I copy. Whats up. Oilcan: I just met a female Emmett. Tinker: A what? Oilcan: A female Emmett. You know. Tinker: Did she attack you? Are you OK? Oilcan: Nope. Just met. Not making trouble, least as far as I can tell. And she doesn't have the smell, you know. Tinker: So? Oilcan rolling his eyes: You know, there are a lot of strange people in this town. Maybe we should think about moving further north. You know. Into cleaner air. There is silence for a minute - then a crackle. Tinker: NO DAMN WAY. Besides if there IS a female Emmett and some of the strange ones living here it means the SONS are not here. WE have too much invested in this, Oilcan. I WANT a home. And I just got Alex up and running and you just got a good start on that new monstrosity of yours. We can't just leave because you ran into a female Emmett. You let me race with Emmett. So why can we just live with his girlfriend. Its a big town. And if the SONS do come - they will be looking for those like her. Not us. Gives us an edge. Oilcan: Good enough. Hanging up the mic he shook his head. She was getting headstrong. And besides, she was right after all. He picked up his clipboard and casually swung out of the truck to finish the process of loading up the beater.

I only caught the tail end of his statement to Aya, but it had me bristling.
"I can understand why our world might be a good place to take a vacation. I got no problem with that. But I just moved to this city, and I plan to make a home here. And I don't want any trouble."
He could tell what she was. And despite the fact that he hadn't roughed her up on sight - a good sign - he also immediately assumed that all Halfers were trouble. Which wasn't an attitude that made me place absolute faith in him. I do not tolerate racism in my town. 'My town' being the Otherworld 'underground' of Urbadelphia, the 'policing force' of which was the Network, which I happened to be chosen to lead. I don't like leading, I hate being a leader, I hate anyone ever having to count on me, but that's the one thing I will not budge about.
You picked me. You live by my rules. Don't like 'em? You get the hell outta town.
Still, this guy wasn't picking fights or making trouble - yet. Which meant he wasn't stupid, and which also made him atypical for a racist. So I simply continued to walk casually over to Aya and pretended I hadn't heard a damn thing.

When I heard a voice come about, I looked over. "Hey Neku. Not much, just relaxing and then he came to tow this." I gestured to the car. "No big loss."
When Oilcan started to talk again, he shocked me. Did he just give me a warning after all I did was sit on the car and introduce myself? I rolled my eyes and was about to say something but then he walked over to his truck again.
"So Neku, how's your day been?" I said through gritted teeth. So much for relaxing...

"It was fine until he began with the speech and assuming I plan to cause trouble but that's life as a halfer. People tend to assume those things." I shrugged. Wasn't the first time this has happened, won't be the last time.
