Yeul opened the door to Veil, momentarily letting in a cold breeze before it closed behind her. She stood against the wall, looking around at the crowd of people. The question of why she came here was hard to answer. Maybe it was because she wasn't used to being around such a large group of people and wanted to see what it was like? Or the fact that while heading home a few days ago she overheard some people refer to it as a haven? Whatever the case, it resulted in her standing in Veil.
She took a few steps in farther, then continued walking. No one really acknowledged her, and she wasn't one to try and start a conversation with the first person she saw. Yeul finally made her way to the bar and took a seat, not sure what to say or do.

He was at the bar, polishing glasses and waiting for a customer; when one sat down in front of him, he smiled.
"Hey there," he asked, "what can I..."
He smelled it; Otherness on the air. Sensed it coming from her.
Cautiously, he finished, "...do for you?"

Yeul looked up at the guy who spoke to her. She could tell, from experience, that he was a Halfer, like her. Not like me. She corrected herself. "Um...a Sprite would be fine, please." She said it quietly, hating the fact that she was so shy around people when Crossings weren't involved.

"No prob," he said, getting one for her. "You look a bit uncomfortable... music too loud for you or something? Or do you have something on your mind?"
One of the essential skills of being a bartender: listening to everyone else spill all their crap on you.
Actually, Lea rather enjoyed it, listening to people and helping them with their problems. He was always eager to lend an ear.

She had looked to the side when he went to get her drink, but at his question she turned back to face him. She shook her head, "No, I'm just not used to being around so many people. Being shy doesn't help either." Did she have a lot on her mind? Surprisingly, not as much as usual.

He nodded. "It can be difficult, getting to know people; you're new around here, right?" He gave her a sideways glance.

"Yeah, I've been here for about a week now. Just haven't been out much." Most of that time? It had been spent sleeping. Luckily she was finally back to normal.

"No biggie. I'm surprised you found this place so quickly; got kind of a niche crowd."
Then, again with a sideway glance as he mixed a drink for someone else, placing it in their hands, he smiled.
"Then again... maybe not too surprised..."

"People talk...I decided to listen." She tilted her head a little, then smiled. "I don't see why you would be."

He grinned. "It takes most people a month or two to find their way in here; even so, many people... most people... never make their way here at all." He shrugged. "There's something... special about this place."

"It's just like everyone here; including you and me." Yeul sipped her drink, the smiled at the bartender, "We're definitely special none-the-less. So I guess we're not 'most people' now are we?"

He grinned. "Not at all!"
He guessed she'd caught his meaning, so he continued. "So, where'd you move from? You used to live around here, or... back 'east'?" He hoped she'd catch this meaning as well. He wondered... wondered if she ws, perhaps, like him.

Yeul hesitated; she had to be careful about how much she said. Listening for any warning she heard nothing. That meant either Kurai wasn’t concerned, couldn’t hear her, or was listening. None of the choices were comforting. Still she nodded, “Back east…haven’t been ‘here’ that long.” By here, she meant Earth. She’d been to Earth a few times before, but had never stayed as long as it seemed she was going to now.
