"According to rumors on the Net, the city of Urbadelphia is plagued with demons..."
A boy stares up at the sky, paused in mid-motion, a pair of strange, transparent goggles perched on his nose.
This is Kenichi Harakawa, "Haraken" for short; he says little on his own, though his saddened, determined eyes mask more emotion and thought than most onlookers realize.
Turning back to the task at hand, a fully-realized virtual keyboard with several panel screens opens in front of him, and he begins to type.
The young man is no more than fourteen or fifteen years old, but the impossibly-fast movements of his fingers spell out an inventive program. The air shifts, and he knows - he's almost there.
He's come to this town with a goal - to find the answers to questions he's been asking for two years now. This was where his best friend Kanna used to live, a place she had described to him as a city of wonders. It was also where she died, in a way that left authorities puzzling. The official report claimed a car accident was to blame, but he was on good enough terms with his aunt to know that official reports often lied.
So here, he'd come, aided in passing by Kanna's old friends, people who he knw but seemed to change into strangers before his eyes. They'd inspired him and helped him to modify and reinvent these glasses - once a simple virtual-reality projector, their screens were now allowing him to see so much more.
He sighs, finsihes his work, the screens rolling up and winking out. There is no activity here; there are no trails. But he can feel the work in them as he feels his own body flicker like the screens.
So close.
He lets them fall back over his eyes, but he moves on toward where he would now be living....

((Okay, to clear up any confusion, Haraken's 'glasses' allow him to perceive and interact with Crossings and the veil, along with serving several other functions, which I'll list below. Of course, he doesn't realize it, but he has Otherborn blood in his background - the glasses won't work to allow anyone but Haraken to interact with Crossings, and will only allow them to perceive them in limited ways.
These are the other functions of the glasses:
-Mobile phone technology; by interfaing directly with wireless cellular networks, Haraken receives phone calls and text messages to the glasses' microprocessor
-Pocket computer/PDA
-Virtual reality interface
He can also program items and such with the glasses that can serve as combat-ready weapons, although he's still not really prepared for the 'true' truth of the Otherworld. Although Haraken himself will not fully exist 'in-phase' with the Crossings and with demons that are still Crossing, the items and abilities he programs are. Later on, as he becomes more skilled, he will be able to program and thus manifest a variety of effects, but right now, he honestly has only a very small clue as to what he's getting into.
On Haraken's Aunt: Haraken's aunt, mentioned in the bio, works for the government and suspects the truth about Urbadelphia; she was the one who gave Haraken the idea that Kanna's death may not have been an accident, and I'll create her NPC bio later, since she'll likely help her nephew out here and there.
Edit: Crap, I forgot! Haraken's glasses also give him the power to see things that are under illusion more clearly. He won't be able to immediately break through a demon's disguise, but it will be easier for him, and he'll see a shadow of things that are being hidden, that kind of thing. As hinted at above, they can also see traces of where demons have moved.))
