For his entire life Fenris had been a slave, born into one of the Halfer Camps within the Otherworld under control of one of the demon lords. From an early age Fenris was put to work, primarily doing menial work that increased in difficulty as he grew older. Aside from the fact that being a slave was all he'd ever known, his childhood was fairly normal in that he had loving parents and even a couple of friends here and there. Things were never dull in the camp, there were even whispers that one of the female slaves was a disgraced demon lord who had been arranged to marry their master.
However the hardships began to wear on Fenris as he got older, turning him outwardly bitter and abrasive. A tactic often employed by slaves to keep others at bay and keep things hidden so that they couldn't be exploited. When he had reached the age of 15 he was specifically chosen by his master for an experiment and was taken into the chambers for which it was to be overseen. It was an immensely painful ordeal that still haunts his dreams to this day and something that he will utterly refuse to go into detail about. It seemed a miracle that he survived but the result was that he was given some peculiar abilities. He was able to utilize the properties of the liquid used in the creation of his markings to unsolidify or solidify parts or even the whole of his body and phase through solid objects, even people.
The capabilities that this new ability held in battle meant that Fenris' master decided to use him as a bodyguard, training Fenris brutally to hone the abilities his markings granted him as well as how to use a greatsword. This continued on for a number of years until recently when Fenris managed to escape his master by going into the Human World during a crossing. He's only just now arrived in Urbadelphia.
