Hi there. It's me, Neku-the-admin.
Now, I've been noticing a semi-disturbing trend in character applications recently, a trend I like to call "Carbon Copy Character Syndrome" or CCCS.
CCCS is when people apply as characters that haven't been altered, at all, from their original selves except, "OH, yeah, he/she is Otherborn".
Now. If you can make this work and fit into the setting, I don't have a problem. The key words there are "fit into the setting'. It must make sense.
This si the real world. The country of Amestris exists not here. If there were a Gundam Project, it would be secret, becase giant robots aren't the kind of thing average, everyday people know about in their daily lives.
I'm not discouraging crativity. If you wish for your character to be part of a secret government experiment, have gone to an undercover school for mutants, have learned the secret and sacred arts of Alchemy, I'm fine with that. If your character had some ability to travel between dimensions, or was sent by someone wit plausible knowledge of dimensional travel, or is a Planeswalker - we'll work something out.
However.
Remember that Otherborn's focus is originality. If your best excuse for being on Earth is "I fell through a random portal that opened up in front of me", it's time to be rethinking your bio.
Now, characters already accepted of this type will be grandfathered in, and if you actually have some kind of ingenious plot to go with it, but don't want to tell anyone, you can PM me for a private review of your character. Other than that, however, no more characters of this type will be accepted. Originality, or at least matching the setting, is one of our rules, and will be being enforced more strictly.
Thank you all for your patience.
On another note, I've had a chat with my co-admin about characters that are neither Human, Otherborn, nor Demonic in origins, such as faeries, superheroes, genetic experiments, spirits, etc.
We've come to the decision that, despite what I said to the contrary, these characters will be accepted if they meet the other criteria for joining. Also, angelic-type characters, while carefully scrutinized, will also be allowed.
Again, thanks for your patience with us.
Over and out.
Neku
