One more picture. That was all Meryl Stryfe needed to make sure this creep went away for good. She'd been hired two weeks ago to investigate some girl's disappearance by her parents, and had tracked her to this creep's place. Most likely she was inside, incapacitated somehow, and she just needed to get a picture of her there, linking everything together so she would have proof that the girl was being kept here against her will.
She was very careful not to make too much noise as she pushed the door open. The creep didn't even lock the door behind him. What a weirdo. She heard voices from a room down the hall and approached it carefully, peeking in quickly. The room was larger and... Covered in bloodstains. She shuddered in disgust and pulled a couple of her guns, ready to fight.
Before she could even enter the room to fire, though, everything blurred. "What?.." It was like the walls around her had disappeared, and been replaced with a wasteland. She could hear something moving nearby and turned, ready to fire. Something jumped at her and she pulled the trigger, the flash lighting it up so she could clearly see...
Meryl shook her head violently. 'No! That didn't happen, it was a hallucination!' She still couldn't remember exactly what had happened, but whatever it was, it wasn't THAT. It wasn't possible!
So now she'd decided to try staying somewhere new, just for a while. Just until her mental breakdown or whatever it was ended and she could remember what had really happened. Still, she kept feelings weird, especially when she was around other people. She'd inexplicably feel angry, or sad, or happy, with no reason for those emotions. Must be another part of her mental breakdown...
[If you're too lazy to read that, basically Meryl was a private investigator and was looking for a missing girl when a demon broke through from the OtherWorld and attacked her, unlocking her power of empathy as an Otherborn. Got it memorized?]
