I don't really remember what happened after I collapsed. All I can remember is a blinding white light after that... Thing, inside of me told me to sleep. I eventually woke up in a hospital bed a couple of days later, Hayer, Pence and Olette by my bedside. They all looked concerned, save for Hayner, he just looked mad... And that was never goods. I was already reeling by the time he ripped into me. "You complete and utter jackass!" He roared, drawing the attention and stares of any outside the room "I told you not to go to the beach! But what do you do?! Go to the beach!" I suddenly lifted my head up from the pillows slightly, confusion lines my face as I frown at Pence and Olette, Hayner was still grumbling away, although now under his breath.
"I was at the beach?!" I asked, raising an eyebrow as the pair looked at one another before nodding. Pence looked a little shaky, he wasn't the bravest of guys, nor was he really popular outside of our group, but... He's a good guy, and one of my closest friends.
"That's where you were found, Roxas..." He mutters, shuffling his feet slightly as if expecting a rebuke, Hayner had a tendency to bully Pence a bit and it was usually me who had to stand up for him in most cases. Pence was short and a little chubby too, so he wasn't in great physical shape, compared to the leaner figures of myself and Hayner who had spent years practicing and sparring with one another.
"I was found?" I asked incredulously as my gaze shifts acros to Olette. She's pretty, that's safe to sat. When we were younger, me and Hayner had always competed for Olette's attention, along with some other guys in school. She took it in her stride though and didn't let the attention get to her head, she's one of the most down to earth people I know!
"Yeah!" She said to me "A random passer by found you and called an ambulance... You've been out cold for a few days!" I frowned and tried to make sense of the situation to the best of my abilities. Knotting my brow in thought I decided to backtrack and take things slowly.
"Okay... You all keep saying this is the second time I've been to the beach... What happened the first time?" Hayner simply groaned at my response in exasperation and turned to the others.
"Can't we just go?!" He asked "He clearly thinks that going into a coma is something to joke about!" Olette waved his response down with a hand and continued to address me.
"You really don't remember?" I shook my head firmly.
"No clue..." Pence simply started to umm and ahh over the possibilities and held a hand up to his chin "I suppose it's possible to forget after going into a coma..." Hayner cut in there.
"He said he wanted to go before he went in a coma." Pence apparently had to re-evaluate his theory after that.
"Weird... Olette! Why don't you just fill Roxas in on what happened? You saw the most!" Olette gave a firm nod.
"Right!"
"A couple of months ago, a few rumours started to spread, they said that whenever people went to the beach, they got attacked by guys in these grey jumpsuits! The reasoning changed depending on who you asked... The mayor would blame everything on local thugs, Setzer thought that they were a group of criminals, and planned on challenging their leader to one-on-one combat! But the most radical theory? Came from a group of conspirators, who thought these things were demons! Anyways, Roxas, you and Hayner being you and Hayner, you both thought to drag us to the beach to see for yourselves. And surprise surprise, we all got jumped... Roxas, you got pretty mad at them and after that they couldn't even approach us, it was like an invisible wall had appeared around us! They eventually left, but you blacked out... We spent a few weeks afterwards trying to figure out what happened, but if what Hayner says is true... You just forgot a few days ago..."
I frowned, taking in every drop of information that was fed to me by Olette and analysing it carefully. None of it added up, at all... It was then that I made my decision and spoke up "Pence, can you call through a doctor? I want to get myself out of here." Pence nodded with at me with a smile.
"Sure thing Roxas!" He seemed happy that I would be getting out of here .
The process of me leaving the hospital was swift and smooth, according to the doctor, I'd sustained no major injurys and was pretty much in the clear. As such, he was under no legal obligation to keep me there (a fact brought to his attention by Pence) but he did warn me of an increase in the beta waves travelling through my brain which are associated with thought and dreaming, he stated they were double the usual but as of yet no side-effects had appeared because of it. So with all of this in mind, I was released. We decided to head back to our hangout round an old back alley and plan our next move. Pence, who is a bit of a conspiracy theorist, wondered on the barrier that had held the jumpsuit guys back. "It was obviously Roxas just getting angry, that scared them off!" Olette suggested which earned nothing but a shake of the head from Pence .
"No... Why would Roxas have blacked out if that was the case? And why would they instead choose to simply circle us? If they were scared then surely they'd have run straight away?" I tapped my own chin in thought, reaching inside for any logical answers.
"Ooooh! Look who has the gall to pay little old me a visit!"
I was shocked to say the least, but I had also sort of expected it... I had wanted to search for the voice within me in the hospital, but I daren't risk it with myself wired up to so many machines, I didn't want anyone knowing about this. "Who are you?" I asked myself internally, and was initially replied with only a chuckle before being given a far better answer.
"I am you . You are me. We are each other. Without you, I die. But without me? You shall die. And I guarantee the circumstances between our deaths are far from similar. I reside within your mind as you already knew, but let me tell you this. If you close yourself off from me and do not use me as I command. You will die. As will those around you."
"Roxas!" Pence called out. "Come on!" I shook my head and nodded at my friend, only just realising that I had been walking so slowly to focus on the voice.
"Heed my words."
The voice warned.
"A usual place, but an unusual grave."
I had caught up to the other three who were outside the alley gate to our little hangout. Pushing the gate aside, Hayner stepped in first, followed by Olette, Pence and then myself. I hesitated at the curtain that led into the hangout itself. The warnings of the voice seeming all too real to ignore. Just as I took one step backwards, Olette cried out. "Roxas! Behind you!" I twisted around too late as a figure in a grey and white jumpsuit bulled into me and sent me sprawling to the floor inside the hangout. As I fell, I rolled onto my shoulder and pulled myself up and onto my feet with a small grunt.
"Roxas!" Hayner called out as he tossed me a struggle bat, it wasn't exactly a lethal weapon, but still! It was better than nothing. If anything the battle was short lived for Hayner, he charged this jumpsuit guy and took a swing at him, but to everyone's suprise... He missed! This guy twisted in a way that didn't seem human and then just bounced back with a kick to Hayner's head. My friend was sent sprawling to the floor with a shout before falling unconscious and that was when the voice spoke to me.
"Roxas! I warned you! Quickly, find me, I shall have to save us it seems."
I searched inside of myself to find the voice and whatever aid that it could give me. Anger welled up inside of me as I looked at Hayner sprawled out on the floor, my best friend, unconscious. He could have been dead for all I knew at that just made it all the worse. I felt a warmth in my hand as a dark shadowy light eminated from my struggle bat, it caught me by surprise and I momentarily forgot about everything else before suddenly, my hand felt heavy. My struggle bat had increased in weight but it felt thinner and longer... Looking down on it, I got a fair shock.
A sword sat comfortably in the pal of my hand. It was midnight black and and had an inlay of a chain running down the length of the blade, the guard was made of two bat like wings and a set of teeth were located at the end of the blade, which looked oddly familiar to Roxas, but he couldn't precisely place why.
"There."
The voice said. It spoke from my mind, I could tell that much now after searching so deeply for it. Then another thought hit me, why weren't Pence or Olette helping Hayner?! Glancing over my shoulder I saw them both stood their in statue shapes of horror, not moving. With a growl I turned back to this jackass in the jumpsuit who thought it fun to beat down on my friends. "Come on!" I roared at my opponent as I charged, blade held behind me in two hands. Taking a hefty swing, this thing tried to spin and for a brief moment I realised the same thing that happened to Hayner was going to happen to me. But then to my own surprise, the blade collided with this thing and sent it sprawling backwards. The jumpsuit guy got up and glared at me (I think he did, I couldn't see his face under his hood and collar) before slinking towards me like liquid. I slid out of his way smoothly with a sense of agility I never knew I had which confused my opponent. Then I swung, A hit. I swung again, another hit. One final swing, one final hit. The jumpsuit guy fell down, and I presumed that he was dead which un-nerved me slightly, I didn't fancy going to jail at the time. I felt my sword get lighter and clumsier as it turned back into my struggle bat. My head suddenly felt heavy as well, and fuzzy, and I could feel myself falling towards the floor.
"Thank you." I said to whatever voice was within my head.
"You shall be singing a different tune next time"
It warned me, and internally I frowned.
"Next time?"
"Shh, shh, Roxas... Sleep."
And once again, I did.
"I was at the beach?!" I asked, raising an eyebrow as the pair looked at one another before nodding. Pence looked a little shaky, he wasn't the bravest of guys, nor was he really popular outside of our group, but... He's a good guy, and one of my closest friends.
