“Welcome back, Damon. I’ll take it that your task wasn’t difficult to complete?” The black and silver haired demon shrugged, “Not nearly as much as you made it out to be.” Damon strolled into the office that resembled an interrogation room. Stainless steel furniture, the walls blank from any color or pictures. The air held authority and it centered around the man sitting behind a desk, resting relaxed in his chair, eyes focused on Damon, “I must say, I didn’t think you’d be disappointed.”
From his jacket Damon pulled a file and held it out to the man behind the desk, “Begging for your life is too common for my tastes. And before you ask, yes we had a little “chat” about our business with each other.” He held his arms up in a shrug, “I’m assuming I got through to him.”
The man took the file and set it down on the desk and smiled, “Considering you got your hands on this, then I believe so.” Damon raised an eyebrow, “Well now that you have that, what’s the next move?” The man opened the file and went through the papers, chuckling before he stacked them and closed the file once more. “I think I’ll pay them a visit myself.”
“You can’t be serious, Sin.” Damon answered with a smile, “Give me the boring job and then have you go and start something that’s sure to be exciting? Not a very fair way to finish this.” His leader waved his hand at him, “Oh but you have a much more important duty to handle. A petty interruption like this has nothing against what you have to do.”
“Yeah, babysitting. How special that is.” Sin grinned as Damon sat down in a chair and leaned back. “If this is all that I’m good for, then I might as well quit. When exactly did I fall to such a low level?” Gold eyes laughed at the younger demon and Sin stood up, “You’ve done quite the opposite. I would never leave such a task in anyone else’s hands. Unlike many of my men you actually do things right.” Sin walked over to the window and gazed out it, smiling to himself, “Which is once again why I give you my most crucial plans to deal with. Otherwise, I’d send you to complete this ignorant obstacle.”
Damon cocked his head to the side and when Sin had finished talking he rolled his eyes, “Don’t tell me I’m stuck with the training part too.” The older demon didn’t move from his spot, “No, that’s my territory. Though I’m sure you could add in a few of your own tips when the time comes.”
He knew it was an order and nodded, “Yeah, sure.” Though what he was going to teach to a non-illusionist was beyond him.
“Damon?” He turned his head to the voice and his eyes set on a familiar red haired little girl, hiding in the doorway. The demon sat up and waved, “Hey, Shiki.”
Shiki started to smile, then saw the figure of her uncle and seemed to shrink back. Damon gestured for her and she slowly walked over as he stood up. Sin turned to the two of them and nodded to his right hand man, “I’ll be heading to finish the job now. Take careful care of my niece, like always.”
His eyes fell to Shiki, and the young girl once again almost seemed to be flinching, “Behave, Shiki. You know the punishment.” She nodded quickly, “Yes, Sin.” Her eyes never left her uncle until he was gone.

Alright, watching the kid? It’s not that bad. Sure, I wasn’t fond of having her around at first. Especially when Sin decided that he didn’t have time to keep an eye on her and assigned me to it. I’m a demon. Not a babysitter. There was nothing special about her that I could see and I was convinced that Sin was crazy for taking her off her parents’ hands. What use is a five year old girl? But my thoughts were proved wrong after a while. I’ve gotten used to her and it is quite interesting to see what she’ll do. So my entertainment, it comes from her.
And now, standing in Sin’s office with her I already have an idea of how I’m going to conquer today’s boredom issue.
She looks at me and I fall back into my chair and smile at her, “So, kid, your uncle was saying that I should start teaching you a few things.” Hey, why not start early? She gives me a worried look and I know she’s thinking of the training. I hold up my hands, “Don’t give me that look; I’m not talking about that. There’s not much I can teach you in the ability department.”
Shiki didn’t relax, “Then what are you going to teach me?”
I grin, “I think I’m going to show you how to snoop.”
Her face changes to confusion, “What’s ‘snoop’?”
“It’s when you go through someone else’s things without them knowing.” I stand and wave over to Sin’s desk.
She gets that weird posture again like she’s trying to hide, “But won’t we get caught?” Ah yes, she remembers her punishment. Smart girl. But it’s time she learns how things work when I’m around.
I crouch down and smile, “That’s what I’m showing you. How to not get caught.”
At this her face brightens and I chuckle, “Care to watch and learn?”
“Okay!” I point to the chair I’d been sitting on and she takes her place on it. Then I begin to go through Sin’s files, the one’s I’ve been subject not to see. Of course that isn’t true anymore. I’ll say there’s some pretty interesting stuff in these folders. I lean back in his chair and kick my feet sideways up on the desk as I go through another secretive document. All the while Shiki’s quietly watching, swinging her legs.
Time passes by and when I know Sin will be back soon I get up and put everything exactly back to the way it was. Kind of. You can get away with these things when you’re an illusionist.
I’m about to suggest that we get out when I see Shiki sitting there and realize that I’m not done yet. I know how badly she doesn’t want to listen to Sin. So how about some secret rebelling? I am supposed to teach her after all.
“Hey kid, come over here a second.” She jumps down from the chair and walks over and then I pick her up and place her on top of the desk. Automatically she freezes and looks at me with wide eyes and I shake my head. “You really think I’m gonna tell?”
Shiki’s eyes go from me, to her feet planted on the desk, and back to me, “Nope.”
I grin, “That’s the right answer.” She giggles and I motion for her to walk. At first her steps are tentative, and then she’s pacing normally back and forth on the desk’s surface. She starts laughing and I lean up against the wall, knowing that when Sin gets back I won’t hear the sound until I have to watch her again. I let her go for a little bit, it’s my turn to do the observing. She stops walking and then sits on the desk, her fear seeming to be gone for the time being.
After a few minutes I nod and push off the wall, “That’s enough for today.” I pick her up and set her on the ground and then sweep my hand across the surface to reassure her that Sin won’t find out anything. Then I point to the door and we both slip out, like we’d never been there in the first place.
A What if/AU that I typed while my Internet was screwed up the other day. I enjoy writing Damon, he comes to me a lot easier that I thought he would. Well this side of him is. This was actually supposed to be depressing, but it drifted away from that.
