Between the overly annoying DmC haters -hey, Ninja Theory IS making a DMC game, they proved it already- and several other little instances I compiled this little list of things that I have noticed over the years of types of complaints 'fans' use on any adapted material.
1. The "Do it Right" phrase.
You may have heard this one, a book is being adapted and you probably heard anyone say these words "I just hope they Do it Right". But, what is Do it Right mean? Though the person intends to mean being close to the adapted source the statement itself is kind of vague and opinionated. Implying that the person's view of the movie is the way they want to see it.
This isn't really a complaint, but something I noticed.
2. "True Fan" card.
I absolutely HATE this phrase, 'True Fan', I hear this a LOT on the DmC page. Well here's a truth for EVERYONE. There is no such thing, the words True Fan is opinion based only. There is no fact, no basis for such a title, no matter how much memorabilia you buy or how much of the series you know there is NO such thing as a true fan. There is only fan, there is no higher plane of fandom. It just makes you sound like an ass.
3. The "they changed it" phrase.
I hear this one a lot, usually about anime and some movies. Imagine a manga is being adapted to an anime, you watch it and...wait, what's this? They changed the order of events?! Captain Carrot got his powers before episode 5? The rival appears early? The love interest is not how she is in the comic? HOW COULD THEY!
...Well, easily, and they can: this is adaption for you. To be honest, I was never a fan of literal adaptions to a show. I mean, to ME its boring to watch what you just read. Where's the thrill in that? I like to see some creative liberties, fresh ideas, new perspectives on the series. Then again I am the most tolerant fan you have ever met, I watched and loved the Super Mario Bros Movie. That should give you an idea.
4. The 'They picked THAT actor' phrase.
Let me show you a mock conversation of what I usually have.
Me: So, the new movie cast came out and such and such is playing the lead.
Person: NO NOT HIM!
Me: Um, what's wrong with him?
Person: He's terrible!
Me: Says who?
Person: Everyone!
Me: ...well no not everyone, cause I think he'll be good for the role.
Person: Okay well I think he's bad, they should recast him.
....you get that a lot? I know I do. Fans who have SUCH a strict vision on their series can't seem to let go of the idea a different actor/actress is playing their favorite role. Especially for things that are remakes or an adaption, they usually claim the original is the best and ignore the 'newbie'. But that's not really fair is it? Actors work hard to interpret a role with constraints and limitations, to ignore all the work they do because you don't like the choice is disrespectful. Especially to someone trying to be an actor one day, cause chances are you may work with this person, and chances are: you may be as 'ill cast' as the other person was. No...no chances, I guarantee it.
5. Haters.
Self-explanatory, they tend to be morons, they THINK they're the majority cause a few people stand with them, ignore positive outlooks and just rage on anyone with a different opinion.
Thats it as of far, I've had some rather annoying experiences of fans through all sorts of things and figured I'd share my notes on it.
