There is a world that overlaps ours, a parallel realm where "demons" lay in wait, living in a hell unlike anything that religion or science can imagine. This Otherworld constantly attempts to intrude into our own, the demons that live within it trying to breach the thin wall that separates it from the mortal plane. Most are evil, seeking only to subvert, destroy, and corrupt; some are enigmatic, mysterious - we don't know why they come. A few even help us to stem the tide, turning on their fellows for reasons they rarely divulge.
Normal people see only what they want to; most never even see the secret wars that wage themselves along the streets at night, battles between the forces of good and the evil that stalks this city. A few of us, however, are tied to that realm - bound to it from birth by ties we don't really understand. When the demons come through, we see them in their true forms, and we catch glimpses of their twisted world. If we're not careful, we can even be drawn into it.
My name is Neku Sakuraba, and I... well, I'm not really sure what I am. All I know is that the dark world has more of a claim on me than most Otherborn - that's what we call ourselves.
Together, we use the powers we've been given by the darkness to fight the intrusions into our world, seek out new Otherborn before the demons get to them, and try and keep the real world safe.
