Artemis pulled his slim, black laptop out of his suitcase, placed it on the table, pulled out the headphones from inside his suit jacket, and plugged them into the speaker jack of the computer. Pressing the power key, and holding his index finger over the specially designed scanner, he waited for the computer to boot up. When the username and password appeared, Artemis erased only the last letter of the username, entered his password, and pressed the 'Cancel' button. (If anyone had tried to use his laptop, they would have absolutely no access to the information stored had they not done exactly as he.)
He opened up the wireless connections and selected an un-secure network (even if anyone had tried to hack his computer, they would find his/her computer shut down, crashed).
He opened up his personal internet browser and searched for Urbadelphia News. Out of the ten results that appeared, he selected the third: Delacorte Press. A video displayed in the center, while the rest of the site finished loading. He had always hated how the videos were the last to load (and half the time incorrectly), so he had his computer programmed to search through the HTML codes and load video codes first.
He pressed play.
A man who appeared to be in his late 40s appeared.
"Welcome. I'm Jim O'Connor, and this is Delacorte Press @ noon. To start off the day, we'll jump right into a Breaking News story. Cheryl has the details for us this afternoon. Cheryl?"
Another news-caster panned in from the right like most news shows. She was slightly younger than the man, though she didn't quite look it.
"Thanks Jim. I'm reporting to you live from the Urbadelphia Airport Terminal, where police are questioning by-standers and employees about a young Irish boy by the name of Artemis Fowl II. Earlier today, a report was made that Artemis was spotted exiting a plane and then leaving the Terminal at around 10:35am, when the plane scheduled from Ireland had landed. He was wearing a black Armani suit, according to officials, and was carrying a single, black suitcase. Artemis and his family are being charged with the disappearance of Holly Short, a young business woman who, according to her brother, had a meeting at the Fowl Estates Manor a few days previously. The entire Fowl family, including Domovoi and Juliet Butler, are being held in custody while a court case is being issued. His parents said, quote, 'He told us the school he attended, Saint Bartleby's School for Young Gentlemen, was going on a field trip. The note looked like a normal permission slip, and it even told us where they were going, what they where doing there, and was signed by his Social Studies teacher.'
The presence of Artemis is crucial for this case to begin, and any information that can be given is being highly rewarded. Artemis is 13 years old, has been said to have raven black hair, and deep blue eyes. Once again, he was last seen wearing a black Armani suit, and was carrying a black suitcase. The contents of the suitcase are still unknown, as neither Artemis nor the case set off any security alarms upon departure.

Artemis paused the video. No doubt this was a hoax to bring back old cases on his family, Artemis thought. They had never been on the government's good side. He didn't even know who this Holly Short was anyway.
He pressed the Power button and closed the laptop.
He wondered if anyone had noticed that he was wearing a different suit than when he first entered the restaurant, or the change in his eye-color; after heading straight for the bathroom, suitcase in hand. He had even changed the the color of the case from black to a deep gray.
Artemis had thought of everything. Everything to help him come here and figure out what was so 'special' about Urbadelphia. Nothing had stopped him on the way here, and nothing evidently caught someone's attention after he exited the restroom. All would be fine.

His father, Artemis Fowl Sr., has invested a large sum of cash into the government, to keep them at bay. His mother, Angeline Fowl, has never been one to like the way their family works, but has taken the advantage to invest into environmental projects.
The Butler family has been with the Fowl family as far back as Artemis' very early ancestors, and are with them until either die. Domovoi is Artemis' bodyguard, while Juliet is Angeline's watcher. There is no information on any Butler assigned to Artemis Fowl Sr., but has never seemed to need one. Once a Fowl passes away, and the assigned Butler is deemed worthy of have been keeping the Fowl safe for as long as possible, the Butler family attains a very large (usually 6-digit) fortune.
Hie family's (or rather Artemis') motto is "Aurum Est Potestas", which means "Gold is Power". His mother prefers diamonds and other such stones, and his father sticks to paper, while Artemis prefers gold.
Abilities: Artemis is a child prodigy and is known to have the highest tested IQ in Europe. He is described as “a plotter…[and]…a schemer” with “the ability to visualize a hypothetical situation and calculate the likely outcomes”. His professors at Saint Bartleby’s School for Young Gentlemen acknowledge that his intellect is beyond what they may offer in the fields of literature, history, science, and mathematics. He is skilled in detecting and creating forgeries. He is ambidextrous, but his left hand is slightly steadier. Finally, Artemis is a trained pilot (though he prefers to be a passenger) and equestrian.
Drawbacks: Multiple-Personality Syndrome. His 'alter-ego,' Orion, is quite the opposite of Artemis, though he still retains vast knowledge. He's often childish and is possibly over-familiar. He enjoys olden-day phrases and terminology. And dislikes lollipops for no apparent reason. The trigger that causes this personality to come forth is a simple shock to Artemis' brain. The reverse trigger is whenever Orion thinks about gold. Memories do not transfer to each, so Artemis will not have any recollection of the events that happen as Orion. It carries an extra suit (either his black Armani or deep blue Zegna custom made suits), his laptop, a pair of mirrored sunglasses, two pairs of contact lenses (green and brown), and 10,000 US dollars (in 100s).
