((Not directly a part of Ascension part 1 or 2, but more like a bridge))
The return to the Veil was a heavy walk, full of burdens and dark promises of the future. A thin thread of hope in the survival of Sora Shimomura hung over the party's head, returning to the Veil was the safest course of action now.
Not to mention there were some questions that needed to be asked, Ashe was the one with the answers. Vaan sat in the chair, the others around him as Ashe sat in the chair opposite of him. Silence hung over their heads.
"Tell me again." Vaan said, "For everyone else."
Ashe looked at him before answering, "I do not remember much...my time as the Arbiter is foggy. I do remember what happened before...I first met him at a seminar, a hidden one. It was full of Otherborn, like myself, he spoke there...told us about how the humans were now pressing laws on Otherborn. Because of an incident with that Otherborn Hei Nerr, the United Nations were making preparations to gather and contain all Otherborn."
"Who is the speaker's name?" Vaan asked.
Ashe looked at the group, Vaan prompted her, "You can tell us."
"He has no name," Ashe said, "Only by what people call him.
Dovahkiin."

"Dovahkiin, huh? 'Dragonborn'? The guy's a bit theatric," Lea said, in uniform again but sitting down at their table all the same. He brushed a strand of red hair back behind his ears. "Never heard of him, though. He's definitely not one of Neku's, at any rate."

"He's not just show and tell." Ashe said, "when you're in the room with him you can see it, he radiates a level of confidence that is scary. Not overconfident, but he is sure of himself."
"And he's Otherborn?" Vaan asked.
"Yes," Ashe nodded, "an Otherborn gifted with the ability of strong endurance, he has a level of strength but if that's not enough it's his fighting ability."
"How well can he fight?" Vaan asked.
"He is proficient in CQC and blades, I've seen him fight once...monstrous, the way he moves and kills, he doesn't like letting a battle drag out - he goes for the quick and brutal kill."
Vaan frowned, "Anything else you can remember?"
Ashe turned her head away for a moment, "No, nothing that could explain what he wants anyway."

Lea shook his head. "So, you don't remember the mission statement? THe purpose of his Network?" He shrugged. "If this guy is our terrorist, it's obvious he believes Otherborn are superior. How far does that spread? Does he want superiority for just the Otherborn, or for all 'Other' things, like... I dunno, non-Otherworld paranormal... Halfers...?"
He was fishing, of course. Looking for her opinions as well as her boss'. He needed to know what it was safe to be around her, how many people he could enlist in helping her without having to worry about the consequences, like whether or not she'd try to kill them.
Believe it or not, he had been attacked for helping people before.

Ashe sighed, rubbing her head, "I do vaguely recall him babbling about the rise of Otherborn and whatnot...but I don't remember how he was going to achieve that goal or who was included in his little group."
She stood up, "Either way, he used me - and that pisses me off. I thank you both for your help, but now I have to handle things alone."
Vaan's eyes widened as Ashe walked past him, "Wait hold on! What do you mean handle it alone?!"
Ashe stopped at the exit to the Veil, "I mean go find the man who tricked me and make sure he suffers for it, before more Otherborn like you and me get hurt."
Like you and me? She thinks I am Otherborn. Vaan thought before shaking his head, "Wait now hold on, this is the same person who turned you to the Arbiter?" she nodded, "Then what makes you think going after him alone is going to work out better than last time?"

Why does she ALWAYS show up at the worst moments? Aqua looks at the slight argument that had broken out. She doesn't really know what's going on, wishes she had gotten there... at least a couple minutes previous. She frowns and walks over, she had heard the last of what was said, "Vaan is right... Despite the fact I'm sure you can do some damage... I think the more powerful you are the worse it'll be for you." She glances to Lea with a question of whether or not another seat at the table was open. "I know being played a pawn sucks, but rushing into a battle full of pure rage and hate, lacking a level head, is already lost before it started." She knows from experience... Besides... The only person she trusts using their anger is Shizuo... No one else has it down like he does in her mind and no one ever will.

Ashe looked at Aqua, "On the contrary, my rage calms me - focuses me and gives me strength."
She folded the hood part over her head, obscuring her face. "It's best I handle it from here."
She walked past her to the exit of the Veil, Vaan moved past them to give chase.
"Where would you even start?" Vaan called after her as she moved outside, "hey wait!"

Shiki had been about to go into Veil when Ashe came out. She only recongized her by her clothes, but she stopped with a raised eyebrow. "Where do you think you're going?" Shiki asked, not rudely, just curious. She thought she was going to give them answers, not walk out.

Ashe turned back at her and scoffed, "On my own."
She walked past her, just as Vaan pushed through the doorway. He looked around and as he spotted Ashe he called out.
"Ashe wait, come on would you just listen to me?!"

She looked over her shoulder and frowned, "So you can what, get yourself killed?" She had no clue what was going on, but she could take a guess and try and get her to stop. "We were the ones that got rid of the Arbiter, all of us together. How is doing whatever it is you're going to do on your own a good idea?"

Ashe sighed, turning around and walking back to Vaan and Shiki. "Look, again, I appreciate you for freeing me but this is my problem now, you don't have a reason for this fight."
She turned to walk away again, Vaan suddenly was...mad. Mad beyond belief, he moved quickly to her.
"Now you wait a moment!" he moved in front of her and stood in her path. "Now you wait, that man you saw who may or may not be alive? That man was, no is, my friend! He was the one who called me here and he was the one who tried to stop this, I am here to bring my friend back! So don't you DARE say I have no reason to be a part of this fight!"

Lea had followed the group out, and was looking at Ash from the sidelines, then sighed.
"For what it's worth, the kid's right. We don't care how badass you are; everyone needs to ask for help every so often, and Sora was a friend to all of us. I admit... I didn't know him very well. But he did a big favor for the Network, which is kind of a favor to all Otherborn. And not jsut Otherborn - everyone with a tie to the paranormal, to other worlds. We owe him. Besides, this guy is claiming to be part of, or the leader of, the Network. Which means every member of the Network has a stake in this - y'know. A stake to try and keep him from getting us all registered with little numeric tattoos on our arms?"

I had been walking up, well, more of stalking Shiki previously, but... SHHHHHH! Don't tell her...! Anyways, I had been walking up and heard everything from the moment Shiki ran into Ashe to Vaan exclaiming his need to get... Whom I am assuming is Sora back. My gaze goes to Shiki and suddenly I'm planting my feet in the way of this Ashe McGuiness, "All of them are right... And we can't let a risk like that be handled alone, we all have a part in this... And despite how much I loathed him, Sora obviously gathered us for a reason." I smile to Ashe. "If it helps, think of us as an annoying, extended family that wants to be there at every twist and turn..."
My shoulders shrug, "But I repeat, they all are right. Shiki, Lea, and Vaan... And anyone else whom is trying to keep not just you safe, but us all... Stop thinking single minded... Pretend for a moment we all are one, we all connect... If you fail, not saying you will or won't, then who's to say we all do then? Numbers is power in most cases... Lets keep the power of good in balance to the power of evil."
[[A/N: No...Not even WRESIE knows what she means, take this as you please.]

Ashe listened to all three of them and folded her arms, she bit her lower lip as she started -as Vaan assumed- thinking. After a little bit of time she sighed.
"I apologize...I did not realize the risks you all had in this, but I need to be on my own a bit." with that she moved around Namine, Vaan who was still surprised called out.
"Wait, why not work with us?! Namine is right, we work better as a team than alone!"
Ashe stopped and turned around, her eyes downcast and gaze fluttering back and forth between the ground and the group, "I...I don't do well working with groups..."
Vaan blinked, "What?"
"I'm not a people person," Ashe explained, "I am better working alone...but, if I find something...I will let you know, okay?"
Vaan was about to argue when he stopped, her expression showed this effort alone was very uncomfortable to her...the way Vaan figured, if she was so dead set on working alone she wouldn't have changed her mind - meaning they must of got through to her somehow.
...but, whatever her issues be, still prevents her from wanting to be with a team - offering to keep them in the loop was probably an effort for her still. It was absolutely frustrating, but Vaan now had no other reason to persuade her.
"...Alright, you better keep your word," Vaan warned, to which Ashe nodded.

At Ashe's words, Shiki could only think one thing. She sounds like Sora. She didn't only think it, she accidently said it out loud, though quietly. It caused her to look away a moment, slightly embarrassed.
That was him, going off on his own, not wanting to work with a group...she mentally sighed. Ashe was their link to what they were looking for, letting her go could mean that they never saw her again. But she thought about it, thought about how Sora handled things and decided...that maybe she would keep her promise.
"Whatever you're going to do, Ashe, be careful about it." Shiki mumbled the next part to herself, "Don't end up where he is..."
