Sora shared one of his fanfics, so I thought I'd share one of mine, since the latest chater just went up.
The story is based on a series called "Young Wizards" by Diane Duane; unfortunately, a lot of people haven't heard of it. It centers around a group of kids living in New York who are chosen by higher Powers to become wizards - guardians of Life who protect the universe(s) from the forces of evil. The series blends well between fantasy and science fiction as the characters undertake missions in settings that range from an alternate, dystopian New York to the bottom of the Atlantic to a mythical Ireland and even the farthest reaches of outer space.
One of my favorite characters is the main character's younger sister, Dairine, who is a genius and specializes in wizardry done with computers. Her combination familiar/wizard's manual is a sentient computer by the name of Spot, and... I dunno, I kinda feel a connection with the snarky brat character who's smarter than all the rest of the characters in the series.
An excercise in writing creepy fiction ended up turning into a rather strange and unsettling piece about Dairine; people really liked it, so I continued it. (that, and I adore being able to use all of these interesting new computer terms I'm learning in college).
