The is sun setting and bringing comforting, yet blazing shadows a crossed the land. And a sound rings out, loud and clear, echoing.
The sound is joyous, free, and heart warming. It leaves his lips as they lean against each other, their shoulders touching and part of their backs. His eyes closed with the fullness of his laughter and she is giggling with a hand over her mouth, eyes smiling at him. Never once in her life did she expect to feel this way, free of her troubles, if just for a moment.
Slowly their laughter dies down, his eyes peek open. She pretends she hadn't been watching him with such a happy expression, but all she manages to do is look off to the side with her ears burning. He turns a little, puts his arms around her shoulders and pulls her against his chest. With out thought she sighs, eyes falling closed as his fingers run through her hair.
After a moment he whispers or more of speaks lower than normal for his voice is usually quiet when not angered, "Remember how we first met?"
She smiles and sighs. Of course she does, it was while on an outing with her friends. She had needed to use the bathroom, he had been waiting by the car they had brought. At first she thought he was a creepy stalker, heck sometimes she still does, but only to tease him. The side of his mouth twitches up in a half smile at that, remembering back to then too.
"Yes, of course I do," She whispers to him after they have sat in silence a while, the sun halfway down now. "How about that first night I got told everything? Or the morning before we meet with..."
He looks off to the side, "Still don't trust him."
"Pffft, who do you trust?" Her eyes roll.
"You."
She can feel his shoulders shrug and she turns her gaze up at him. Voicing her thoughts only when he looks down to her, "Yeah, yeah, besides me partner."
"Mmmmm... That one friend of yours... the girl."
She snorts, "Typical." And shifts about until she's allowed to lay her head down on his lap. "But I'll let it slide."
Its his turn to give a sound of disbelief, somewhere between a laugh and a sigh, "No you won't."
She just smiles at that.
He knows her well.
And so they watch the sunset. Well, he's watching her falling asleep. And she's watching the sunset with droopy eyes and relaxed from his finger running through her hair. And they stay like that for a little bit as it gets dark, really dark, before he gently lifts her and carries her towards her car. She had taught him how to drive, they had convinced the overseers to get him a fake driver's license.
Turning on the car and putting it into gear he pull out of the park, turning on the CD player, smiling as a song begins playing. Whispering a soft tune over them both...

"Hands. They intertwine.
Blushes brush your cheeks.
Together they made the climb.
After only a couple weeks.
Her hand always in his.
Smiles dim that the stars.
Each with their own risk.
Creating a world they called
OURS..."
