Name: Rin Okumura
Age: 17
Appearance: Blue-black hair, deep blue eyes; to those who notice such things, he has noticeable fangs and pointed ears. He always carries a sword across his back in a red carry-sheath and hides a tufted, black-furred tail underneath his shirt.
Classification: DEMON
---
The file lay on the table in front of the teenaged boy, and he sighed, shook his head, closed it. Stood, walked away. Tucked it into the huge bag he was carrying.
Across the front of the folder could be glimpsed the word, "NETWORK"
---
True Form: Mostly human in appearance due to a noble bloodline1, Rin's pupils are bright red. His ears become long, his fangs, much more pronounced. The tip of his tail becomes a ball of blue flame and he gains horns and an aura of the same 'material'.2
Powers: Rin controls the most powerful fire any demon may posess - blue flame, a flame so powerful it reduces all it touches to ash, though it is said that Rin's flame will choose its targets, unlike his father's.
1: Rin's father is the King of Fire, one of the highest-ranking elemental demon lords in the Otherworld. Blue fire is the specialty of him and his descendants. This demon is a step or three above even Lord Ifrit.
2: Some restrictions on Rin's access to his true form apply; see 'Personal History', next page.
---
The words of the file ran through his mind. 'Demon'. 'True form'. 'Powers'. 'Noble bloodline.' He yelled a wordless challenge at the snarling Lesser who looked at him from across the Crossing and he charged.
---
Personal History: Rin Okumura is the son of a high-level demon by a human woman. While usually, this would result in a Halfer child, though a Halfer of considerable power, Rin's situation is ultimately unique in that he has a fraternal twin.
Rin's genetics are Halfer in many ways, but due to the frailty of his brother's body within their mother's womb, Rin absorbed his brother's power and became a full demon while still developing. Birthing a full demon, however, was beyond his mother's capabilities. She lived just long enough to give him and his brother names before succumbing.
Unfortunately, his father was of enough power that Rin simply existing in our world put it in danger; a demon of considerable power thus sealed Rin's abilities in an ancient sword rumored to be Kurikara, the demon-slayer. If the sword were ever drawn, Rin would become a demon; until that day, he would live as a human child.
---
"Dammit, demons! Quit messing with my friends!" he yelled as his fist met demon-face, sending it flying into the wall. If he drew the sword now, the other one, the girl he was trying to protect, would see. And then there would be a problem.
Just as there had been a problem that day, so long ago, when he'd first seen blue flames...
---
Personal History (cont.): Unfortunately, no binding on a demon's power can ever be perfect. At the age of 15, Rin's powers became strong enough to begin to burn through the binding, allowing him to manifest small flames when sufficiently angry or stressed.
Those flames drew the attention of demons... those demons came for Rin. In the struggle, the priest who had raised him was murdered by his blood father, who attempted to drag Rin through a Crossing of his own creation.
In desperation, and an attempt to save the man he considered his father, Rin drew Kurikara, transforming his body forever with no hope of return. While the sword is sheathed, Rin still exists, on this plane, as a Halfer; when the sword is drawn, Rin takes on his true demonic form.
---
He looked backward at the girl. She was doing her best over there; he had to do his.
"Get out of the boundaries of the Crossing!" he yelled. "I've got this!"
"No!" she said. "I have to do this. Come on! Let's get 'em!"
He rolled his eyes, but complied, swinging his sheathed sword at a demon...
Which rent the red carry-sheath in half, exposing Kurikara's blue surface. He reached for the sword's hilt, but the demon threw it to the side.
---
The person who draws Kurikara to activate Rin's powers does not have to be Rin himself.
---
The girl was also thrown; she landed near the sword and reached out for it, grabbing it by the hilt.
He had just enough time to turn towards her and scream the word NO before she pulled the sword from its sheath.
The sword itself ignited with blue light. His tail uncurled, pulled from its hiding place; the tip ignited into blue fire. Twin flames ignited on his forehead, forming horns; a crackling aura of blue flame surrounded him.
The girl shrieked and dropped the flaming sword. He dove for it, snathing it up and using it to destroy the demon reaching for her. She screamed again, backing away from him.
"You're one of THEM!"
The rest of the demons ignited with another sweep of his sword; he slammed it into the sheath as the Crossing ended around them.
It didn't matter if the girl knew. He had been on his way out of town anyway.

Personal History (cont.): Since discovering and awakening his heritage, Rin has been forced to move from district to district by an odd contract surrounding his birth. The head of the then-Otherborn Organization made a deal with the priest, Shiro Fujimoto, and the demon who sealed Rin that as long as he were human, the Organization would let him live. If he were to awaken, he would need to be killed. When Rin awakened, however, he joined the Network in a desperate effort to preserve his own life and to save the lives of others. The head of the district he lived in made this deal - that if he were to keep his powers a secret, he could live. Reveal himself, to anyone, and he would be killed or forced to leave.
But the truth has a nasty way of coming out. Rin continues to move on and make the same deal with every Network cell leader he meets; he's moved a lot in the past two years. The longest he stayed anywhere was in a Californian city, Daikoku, where he maintained contact with a small group within the Network's cell there. He left, however, of his own accord to strike out for Urbadelphia soon after a tragic accident claimed the life of one of his friends.
He is required to carry this file on him at all times.
---
He left her behind without another word; she never saw him leave. He was used to leaving behind friends, though he hated it. Maybe someday they'd meet again.
But soon, soon Urbadelphia would be in his sight.
Then maybe he could speak with the Head himself.
Maybe he could find a way to stay for good...
