This guy-- the one he was talking to-- was probably one of the heroes who tried to prevent the future he lived in. He wasn't sure if his fingers were trembling because he was excited... or afraid.

Head_Phones: Awesome? I thought for a moment, leaning bak in my chair. I wondered who this person was.... that response was far from the normal one I would have expected, even from someone who had heard of us. He obviously wasn't a member, and was probably a fringe element of some kind, an Otherborn or Halfer who lived apart from us, but with knowledge of us. But those people usually did't have positive reactions towards us... especially that positive.Head_Phones: Well, at least I don't have to kick you off before you find out secrets about us. Head_Phones: AI, who are you, anyway? Head_Phones: Are you an Otherborn? A Halfer? How did you find out about us? If you think we're so cool, why aren't you a member already? Head_Phones: Or did you used to live in an area where your local chapter isn't open and accepting? I was assuming he was in Urbadelphia, but I could be wrong; he might still be in an area where the local chapter wasn't accepting. An IP trace started to pop up by itself on my computer and I knew Izzy was NetDiving again. Bart licked his lips thoughtfully upon reading the next message sent to him, resisting the urge to bite and split his bottom lip in half. What was he supposed to say? Because obviously, Head_Phones was going to get, oh, I don't know, a little suspicious if he went on ahead and said, "Most people from the network are dead where I'm from!"

He crawled out from the safety of his alley as he watched people pass by with odd and confused looks, in which he promptly responded with a wince and a shrug. It was going to take a while to get used to people trying not to kill him, especially with the difference between then and now.
Upon seeing that yes, it in fact was "The Veil" like Head_Phones said, he grinned slightly.

I stood up, knowing pretty much for a fact that nobody would touch my computer with Lea on duty at the bar, and stepped outside, looking around. There was a redheaded boy sitting hunched over a cell phone like hte world was out to get him, looking nervous as people gave him odd glances and then walked on by.
I tapped him on the shoulder. "Hey," I said. "You AI?" I pulled my headphones down around my neck and raised a friendly eyebrow.

Bart jumped in surprise, his fingers mashing all over the keys on the phone before speeding to the wall across from him.
With wide eyes and a fast beating heart, he stared at the stranger who had so suddenly tapped his shoulder with a look of shock, confusion, and a pinch of distrust.
"Hey," He said. "You AI?"
Nodding slowly at the sudden realization, Bart eyed the orange-haired stranger's head-phones, and immediately flashed his gaze back to the cellphone.

Oh.
"You're..." He trailed off, before sending him a wide smile and standing up from his place on the ground. "Yeah! That's me. Uh, real name's Bart though." He wiped his nose on his sleeve. "Bart Allen." |
