I turned full around, sighing, shaking my head. Sorry I'm a bit touchy, I told the guy, though I wasn't sure I really meant it.
"Not just wings," I told her out loud, sighing. "To be honest... I hoped you wouldn't have to see me like this myself."

He shrugged. Doesn't bother me. Shiki dropped one hand from her hip, "Well, we're both regretting something then." Damon out his hands in his pockets, "We're all learning something new today then. Kid, you're quite a hypocrite."
"Huh?" She looked at him and he nodded at Neku, "Considering the way you act around him, you're statement to me is hypocritical."
"What are you talking about?" He motioned to Neku, "What is he?"

I winced.
"Look, this is kind of a new thing, okay?" I said to the jerk, rolling my shoulders so both sets clicked. "Besides, if I'm a hypocrite for fighting demons, then so're you."

It clicked and Shiki whirled on Damon, "Neku is my friend and he is nothing like you. Don't compare yourself to him! So shut the hell up!"
She huffed and looked to Neku, attempted to shove down the dangerous anger threatening her, "Damon's an ass. Don't listen to him. He's just a selfish demon."

I shook my head. "Shiki. Shiki, calm down."
I pulled a hand out of my pocket, put it on her shoulder.
"He might be an ass alright, but... he's right. I suppose I should also object to the 'selfish demon' remark... just on principle." I gave her an ironic smirk, showing my new set of fangs. "But I'm not really feeling like it right now."
I sighed, dropped my hand back to my side.
"I'm sorry, Shiki."
Then I started to walk before she could explode.

She crossed her arms, "Now why are you sorry? Because you're a demon?" Shiki narrowed her eyes, "Am I really going to have to smack some sense into you?"

I stopped.
"Why," I asked the sky, "is everyone saying that to me?"
I glared at the sky.
"I am in a business that hunts demons, and the only person who's called me on it or yelled at me for it is the guy who's a demon! THis doesn't make any sense!"

Shiki stalked up to Neku, barely hearing Damon tell her, "Careful, kid." She looked Neku in the eyes, "His opinion doesn't count two shits. What do you expect us to do? Suddenly turn on you because you aren't what we expected? That's stupid!"

I sighed.
"No offense, but... everyone I know has been hurt by demons. I was expecting something a little loser to surprise or even abject horror... not... blind, blatant acceptance." I took a deep breath, let it out. "I mean... I knew it was going to happen, and I was still shocked the first time I saw what had happened to me."

And I'm not going to just change my opinion of you because you're different. No offense taken by the way," She said and nodded in Damon's direction, "He just makes my life worse."

My tone was harsh, deadpan, and slightly too inhuman for my tastes. I crossed my arm and planted my feet, and then sent him a chilling glare.

I sighed, my wings drooping from their tense, raised position, back to closed on my back. THen I shook my head.
"Let me get back into the me-suit again, and I'll be in a more stable mindspace," I said, before closing my eyes and taking a deep breath, finding the 'me' inside me again. I felt everything recede, the human part of me... well, the human image in my mind... taking back over.
It itched. Goddammit.
"So... yeah. Anyway," I said, getting used to my wings and horns being gone again. "I guess this would be the wrong time for me to say, 'Hi Shiki, how've you been, how bout that weather', right?"
