....and then my head spun, and I fell to my knees.
"Damn.... guess I.... overdid it...."
I put a hand to my head, where a blistering headache was starting to take root.
.....was I hallucinating, too? Where'd that demon go.... oh.
Right. Guises. Duh.
"So, that's what you look like when you're pretending to be human, huh?" I asked him after taking a couple of deep breaths.

"Pretending?" Sora looked at him, "Oh...you're an Otherborn. Well, I am too actually...I just don't retain my movie star looks."
He chuckled a bit at his joke, but sighed. "What you saw is called 'Ghost Rider', I'm...a sorta Warden of the Veil."

I gave him a skeptical look up from the ground. "What the hell's that s'posed to mean?" I asked.

Once the attack ended, Shiki fell to her knees, coughing and gasping for air. Right as the world changed back to...well what normal people think of as normal, the reaction the spell had caused rushed right out of her, like a roller coaster going down. It took about thirty seconds of fearful coughing and gasping for her to finally be able to breathe, not that well, but enough so she wouldn't die from lack of oxygen.
She looked up and the figures of Neku and the now human looking boy wavered a bit in her vision, and she shook her head to clear it.
"Warden of the Veil? ...Never heard of him." Shiki managed to say after a few minutes.

"Well there hasn't been one in a...long while," he trailed off, before looking concerned about the two of them. "You two look like, pardon the pun, hell. You gonna be alright?"

Slowly, and a little shakily, Shiki stood up. She was definetly tired, more like exhausted. Still she nodded. "I'm fine." I hope. She added that thought to herself. She wasn't sure if that sounded convincing or not. Most likely it didn't, but she really didn't care. "What about you, Neku?"

I stood, brushing the asphalt dust off my knees. I didn't bother responding to the obvious lie; I'd known people like her, and calling their bluffs didn't really do any good. "Eh, I just overdid it a little back there; I should be fine," I said instead.
We'd done a good job, working as a team like that; I'd have to remember that if she decided to start helping out more often. Maybe talk to a Contact about it...
Something nagged in the back of my brain. Contact. Contact. Shiki....
"Hey, you," I said to her suddenly. "What did you say your name was again?"

I told you before didn't I? she thought, annoyed. But she responded anyways.
"Shiki. Shiki Misaki."

Misaki. Misaki.
That just sounded wayyyy too familiar to be coincidence. I pulled out my phone and began flipping through text messages.
Misaki, Misaki....
There it was!
'Hey. Shiki Misaki's moving out of my territory for a while and straight into yours; thought I'd give you a heads-up. She's good at what she does, don't let her attitude get to you. If there's anyone who can handle her, it's you, Sakuraba. Here's her Contact info.'
My eyes brightened and I grinned as I flipped my phone shut. "Sorry about that, Shiki. Your name just rang a bell all of a sudden. You're the new Contact I was supposed to meet, right? Mr. H told me you'd be heading my direction."

"Eh?" Shiki answered confused. She was supposed to meet him? And how did he know about-
Wait.
He said his last name was...Sakuraba. Mr. H had told her she was going to see someone with that name. Who was it again? Oh yeah, the leader of the organaztion.
WHAT?!
"Wait, you're the lead Watcher?" Shiki's eyes widened. She could hardly believe Neku was the head of the organazation. Should she be worried about all those things she said earlier? Nah. He'd have to deal with it.

I crossed my arms.
"You don't have to act all surprised about it," I grumbled. "But yeah, I'm the Head Watcher. Neku Sakuraba. You're pretty good at all this; we made a good team back there."
Always be polite, I told myself. Besides, we had made a good team.

Okay, maybe that had sounded a little rude. Just a little. But could you blame her? Shiki's face went from surprised back to her usual set expression.
"Well I surely didn't expect to meet you this way. Or this soon."
He was right, they had made a pretty good team for knowing nothing about each other.
"Yeah we did." She laughed. "Hope you enjoyed it. I don't show off for nothing." She was joking, but kind of shocked that she just pulled all of that in front of the head Watcher.

I laughed; couldn't help it. "That was showing off?" I deadpanned.

Cue annoyed Shiki pose. She placed her hands on her hips and gave Neku a glare.
"Oh shut up! I can do better if I want to!"
Some people would call her disrespectful for talking to a Watcher that way. But it was just Shiki being Shiki. You either accepted it, or hated it and had to deal with it.

I chuckled. "I'm sure you can," I replied without the hint of sarcasm, grinning.
I get uncomfortable around people who think that just because somebody decided out of the blue that I would be a good leader that means that I"m somebody important.
I'm not. I'm just a guy. So stop bowing and scraping, okay?
But this girl was standing up for herself, even to me. I liked that. I liked her style.
I held out a hand. "Here's to a bright new future working together, right?"
