"Noctis...huh. Nice name." She gave a small smile and told him her own.
"Call me Shiki."
She wasn't one to demand formal introductions. Just a name was good enough for her; it didn't really matter to her how she learned it.
"So, are you new to the city?" Shiki asked, trying to make a conversation.

I smiled briefly in thanks and to acknowledge her introduction, glad that she didn't seem to be one for formalities. Especially since I didn't yet have enough control over my visions to keep them from swarming my head when I didn't want them to. I glanced towards the bar and signalled for a waiter, hoping that a glass of whisky or something would help relax me before I heard Shiki speak. "Yeah, I am. I've only been here for a few months." I replied with a slight shrug of one shoulder. "What about you? Been here long?"

"You two certainly seemed chummy, that's all." I replied before I noticed her looking at a point just over my shoulder and I turned around to see who it was. It was some guy that had just taken a spot in one of the more secluded booths. It was obvious he was trying to stay under the radar, though it didn't work very well as only a short time after a girl left her group at the bar to sit with him. He didn't seem to mind to much since he started talking with her. Not seeing or sensing anything to be concerned about, I turned back to the blonde in front of me. "Well anyway, my name's Zack. What's yours?" I asked with a shining grin as I extended my hand to shake hers.

"Alright. Just don't pass out, Tifa hates it when people lose it on her floors." He winked back. "She's a bit of a dragon; nothing like you."
He went, got her the bottle, presented it with a flourish, then grinned. "Sorry, but other duties call." He bowed slightly, then returned to Aya's table and sat down again.
"Sorry about that, you two. I think I should get a sign or something, 'Waiter on break'."

"Actually I've only been here a few days." She didn't see the need to explain why. Those who needed to know already did.
She fingered the rim of her glass. "And let's just say, with all that's gone on, I feel like I've been here a month. Though it all hasn't been bad."
The waiter Noctis had called came over, and Shiki went quiet.

I watched Zack carefully. "Your point? I barely know him but he seems alright, doubt he'll ever actually reach 'friend' status but whatever." I grabbed the empty cup that once contained my rum and coke and gave it a very disappointing look before putting it back down.
"Anyways my name is Aya." I shook his hand briefly before Lea showed up and sat back down. "You should, or at least look a little less waiter like if possible." I started to draw a little on my napkin again adding in some last details before flipping it over again. I smirked at a quick though which I quickly voiced. "Although, I should ask for a refill for the sake of bugging you. Lucky for you though, I've had enough." I pushed the empty glass away from me to emphasize my point.
I looked back at Zack. "So Zack, what brings you here? Can't be the waiters, they don't look that good." I gave a glance over at Lea with a smile on my face.

He raised an eyebrow. "Hey! I have a gay friend, and he says I am hot. No better judge of a guy's beauty than a gay friend." His grin widened. "For those uninitiated, the name's Lea - got it memorized?"

"I take it that it's been a busy month?" I asked before ordering some whisky from the waiter who walked away after scribbling it down. I moved to lean into the padded back of the booth seat. "Is there anything interesting you've learned?" I knew most would expect her to ask me that instead of the other way around since I have been here longer, but laying low doesn't normally lead you to getting out much.

I listened intently as Aya spoke while looking into her cup with a disappointed expression before she shook my hand. It was brief but I didn't mind, withdrawing my hand once it was over. That was when the red headed guy showed up again, drawing my attention. He seemed to be in a bit of a better mood this time, probably because he wasn't about to potentially throw me out of the club. "Hey, no prob. The place looks pretty busy." I said with a smile still present on my face as the waiter apologized for being so busy.
I watched the exchange between the two, taking the unexpected road and simply taking things in until Aya addressed me directly and sent a sarcastic barb at the waiter at the same time. "The place looked interesting and I thought I'd check it out. It's definitely lively." I replied as I looked around the place, laughing at Lea's retort about his gay friend before he introduced himself. I turned my attention back to him and flashed a grin. "Nice to meet ya, the name's Zack." I told him as I extended my hand to shake his as well.

"Eventful would be more like it." Shiki answered. Definitely eventful. Not that every day was a pain. His question of what she'd learned surprised her. She raised her eyebrows for a moment.
Better ask him what he is first.
"Sorry, but before I answer that I need to know something. Are you an Otherborn?" Not wanting to cause panic, she added, "Don't worry, I'm not some under cover agent that's going rat you out or anything. I just don't want to freak you out if you're not."

He shook it. "Nice to meet you too, Zack. Yeah, it gets pretty lively around here." He grinned. "That's the beauty of Veil. Plus, there's always a little air of mystery around here..." he added in a faux-spooky stage whisper

"I wonder what it's like around Halloween." Personally I love Halloween. The anonymity you gain from the right costume. You could escape yourself so easily.
"Anyways, I'm kinda new to this part of town, anything interesting I should see Lea?"

"Well... let's see." He thought for a moment. "I could be biased, but I could say you're sitting in the best place in town to visit." He smiled. "If you're tough enough, the Labyrinth will take you anywhere you wanna go faster than taking the main streets. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone inexperienced, though, it's easy to get lost and the gangs're vicious in some of those areas." The Labyrinth consisted of the back streets of town, an urban maze claimed by the seedier elements of town. "Black Hole Stadium's a great place, too, if you're into music."
He stared into his glass - he'd emptied it of soda. He flagged down one of his fellow staff members. "Hey, can you get us all a refill? Tell Tifa to take it out of my check."
The guy agreed.

I thought over her answer that things had been more eventful than anything, this place seemed like a safe enough place as long as you stayed away from the wrong types of people but looks could be deceiving. After I had asked my question I had quickly noted her look of surprise. Had I said something wrong? I was quickly becoming nervous that I'd stepped on some sensitive issue but when she spoke it was my turn to be surprised. When she asked if I was an Otherborn my nervousness turned from being about accidentally sticking my foot in my mouth to being about if I had been discovered. Luckily, she assured me that she wasn't an undercover agent and I quickly nodded my head to answer that I was, indeed, an Otherborn. "Yeah, I am."

I laughed a bit at Lea's stage whisper, this guy seemed like quite a character and completely opposite of Aya. It made for amusing banter, that was for certain. Aya's fondness for Halloween didn't surprise me much since she seemed like the type who preferred to stay hidden, nor did Lea's knowledge of the surrounding area surprise me. He definitely seemed like someone who liked to keep tabs about what was going on. Then again, he was a bartender and people usually spilled their guts to bartenders for some reason.
As Lea flagged down a staff member I could sense a quickly rising level of nervousness and anxiety behind me and I turned my head to discreetly look over my shoulder as my smile fell a bit. It was coming from the guy who had come in earlier, whatever the girl had said had apparently set off alarm bells for this guy. When the girl spoke again the anxiety began to decrease though it didn't disappear entirely, likely from the lingering adrenaline that must have been shooting through his veins. I turned back to the others but paid extra attention to my senses in order to keep tabs on what was going on in the other booth.
