He nodded. "Not so different from other answers I've heard over the decades," he murmured to himself, then smiled. "It is my responsibility to decide who is worthy of such a chance," he said calmly. "To determine the criteria, the method, for testing those dead before their times for that worthiness... and to administer the test, and score the results. I was given this duty by Angels, after passing my own test of worth." His gaze never faltered, his words brimmed with belief. True or not, crazy or not, he seemed to place his total and complete faith in this concept.

Even though the words coming from his mouth sound like total madness... It can't be too far fetched. We have our hell, whats to say we don't have a physical heaven that some beings can touch and step back and forth through. Besides, the thought of Angels, real Angels is comforting. Smiling, I look him over, "Alright... Alright... Lets say... I believed you... If you're some higher being there HAS TO BE a reason you're here... What reason do you think that is?"

He laughed. "I told you. I stepped a few dimensions sideways in order to get out of a bad situation. Namely, a number of disgruntled subordinates who'd decided that they would rather have my job."

It would be easy to choose to not believe him. She could simply brush it off and walk out. But Shiki did believe him, finding herself wanting to. Truly she'd always been skeptical about a heaven or any better place, but...now she wasn't doubting the idea. "I don't know if it's crazy or not but...I believe you. You couldn't have made all that up."

His grin calmed, and he nodded at Shiki, his smile more sincere.
"Thank you," he said. "Thank you for believing me, though I suppose 'you couldn't have made all that up' isn't exactly the most confidence-inspiring of reasons." He chuckled.

Finally she allowed herself to smile, feeling the ice between them begin to break, "Hey, just congratulate yourself for convincing me." Shiki looked over at Namine, waiting for her answer.

He sighed. "I suppose you could be correct. THe problem is, even I'm not exactly sure of the reason for this visit. It was all I could do to escape from the group that was after me. I was only supposed to slide a dimension or two, but I miscalculated and ended up here. My power is severely limited, and jumping so far drained my strength enough that I don't know if I'll ever be able to leave of my own volition."

"You're gonna need a plan of action and several back ups, along with lots of winging it when the human mind becomes too unpredictable for the calculations you've made... He blinked.
Unpredictable was right; as much as he tried, he was having it sent home time and again that - despite the success of his previous chess game with his supervisor and subordinate - he really couldn't predict the exact reactions of those around him.
"Make some more friends, hm?" he asked thoughtfully. "Well, I suppose it couldn't hurt."
