Vaan screamed. He screamed as the massive explosion rang in his ears, it sent them all backwards except for him - it shot him forward. He sailed through the air and crashed on the ashen dirt, he could hear his weapon clatter to the ground and vanish.
"Damnit!" he yelled against the pain, "Is everyone all right?!"
He didn't get to hear their answer, a metal boot clanged a few spots ahead of his face and he was faced with a figure, a figure clad in darkest night...
...in that moment, he thought about everything that led to this second...
(An hour or so earlier...)
Vaan and the group from earlier arrived at the Veil, some earlier and some later than others. Vaan was more interested in the quaint little bar that he had stepped into.
"Nice bar." he commented aloud, granted, it was the only bar he had ever been in...but it was impressive still.

"That it is," Izzy commented, plopping himself down at a table and gesturing for Vaan to join him. "Head Phones doesn't appear to be around right now, but Lea's waiting tables rather than tending bar, so we'll be good if we sit for a while." He waved in Lea's direction - the tall redhead certainly wasn't exactly inconspicuous, what with his massive, flame-colored spikes and the fact that he was probably the tallest guy in the building at the moment. He moved through the afternoon crowd with the ease of practice, wearing a black vest over his white button-up shirt with the same practiced ease.
"That's him," Izzy told Vaan. "He pretty much runs the place; honestly, it's impressive."

A few moments later Namine comes walking in with a half there Aqua, seems as if they had gotten "lost" on their way there. But none the less Nami spots whom she's looking for and drags Qua over, "Mind if we sit?" She's as bouncy as before and her partner in crime is her polar opposite.
Aqua's blue eyes glance to Vaan and then Izzy. She give them both a half smile before adding, "We can get another table if you want." She's always self conscious of people not wanting her around and always assumes so (unless its Shizuo, then its sorta never apparent to her ^^').

"Go ahead," Vaan gestured to the empty spots next to himself and Izzy, as he does he looks at them. "I have a question, well, to both of you girls since you two are stated in that letter so please tell me: how did you know Sora?"

Namine sits eagerly while Aqua takes her much more slowly, not nearly falling out of her chair as the blond had. But at Vaan's question the blue haired woman quite literally froze, but the blond snorts, "He was a jack ass! But I put up with him for Shik's sake... I loathed that man though, seriously talk about judgmental with out having a reason."
Aqua sighs and then glares at Namine, "Just because he didn't like you doesn't mean he was horrible Namine!" She leans back in her chair and adds in her own experience. "Sora and I fought in a couple crossings together... He was a nice guy, even payed for a medical bill of mine... Personally though, I thought of him as family..." The blond had causally flipped Aqua the bird when she had been shouted at and rolls her eyes at the whole family thing. But she doesn't do much more, she can tell she'll need her energy for later if things kept being exciting at least.

Vaan listened to both girls stories, both mixed but they both spoke of the guy he once knew.
"Sounds like Sora..." he said, putting his chin in his hands and sighing. His mind did wander back to when Sora was in the orphanage, as he did though he was reminded of the reason why he was here.
"That reminds me," he reached into his jacket and pulled out the book he was given, in between certain pages were letters for both Namine and Aqua. "Sora had letters he wanted to give, you two are both on his list."
He set the letters down on the table and was about to close the book when he actually looked at the pages: they were about the recipients of the letter, Namine and Aqua, it was a full psychiatric profile of the two girls and background information. Vaan flipped through the pages and found similar entries about different people, this must have been a journal for observations.

Izzy looked between the three of them, seeming lost.
"Just to fill in, who is this Sora character, anyway? Like I said, I've only been back in own for six months or so, and I don't really know very many of the newcomers. Speaking of which, it's nice to meet you ladies. Neku's told me a lot about you, 'specially you, Namine."
That was the moment the redhead noticed he had new customers.

"Hey there," he said, walking over. "Been a while, Nami. Neku's not here right now, but can I get you and your friends anything in the meantime?"
Then he paused. "Izzy! Is that you? It's definitely been a while here! Neku told me you were back in town; why haven't you been by?" He seemed genuinely happy, but the teen waved a hand.
"The Head's got me pretty busy," he replied. "Lea, this is Vaan," he continued, waving to the blonde. "He's got something for you, I think; think you can spring a break from Tifa? After getting us some of your delicious, sumptuous food, of course." He winked at the rest of them. Lea laughed.
"Sure, sure. What can I get all of you?" He paused, pen and pad ready and waiting to take the group's order.

Shiki was sitting at the bar, staring into a drink and thinking to herself. Two familiar voices rang in her ears nearby, breaking her from her thoughts. She glanced over her shoulder to the direction where they were coming from. She saw Namine and Aqua at a table with some people she didn't know. Guessing it was a private conversation stayed in her seat, rather than going over.

When Izzy spoke Vaan hesitated to answer, it was quite obvious the Sora he knew and the Sora they know are very different people. When Lea came over he was about to hand the letter when he decided to wait when he's off, when he began taking orders Vaan shook his head.
"Nothing for me." he paused, "Well...maybe some fries."
He paused again, "And if you're gonna get me fries may as well get me a plate of onion rings...and if you're gonna do that, top it off with a cherry soda."
Vaan was going back to Sora's journal, he went to the listing of one of the intended letters: Shiki Misaki. He looked at the picture he had and read her profile, it spoke of a demon named Sin and parents who hated her Otherborn nature...one part stood out there.
Why is the relationship status scrubbed out? It's like he wrote something there, but then wanted to cover it up.
He was going to turn to Lea to change his order...when he saw her, the exact same girl that was on the entry for Shiki. Slowly standing up he gently pushed his way out of the seat.
"Hold on guys," he said, walking across the bar to the girl. Slowly walking around and introducing himself, "Excuse me...are you Shiki Misaki?"

Nami cocks her head to the side, "Better only be good things!" Then she beams to Lea. "Coffee... I would like a huge cup of black coffee... If you have it~."
Aqua sighs and says to Izzy, "He had been a friend of ours." But doesn't state anything further, Sora had been secretive and personally she didn't feel like dropping too much at the fall of the hat. She looks away then, preferring to not be dragged into this conversation more than need be... She hopes Namine will at least be kind enough to keep anything that should be kept inside her head, although knowing the blond she's sure it'll be just the opposite.

"Sure, sure, one large, black coffee for the blonde," he said, winking at Namine as he jotted down the order. "Neku was here a while ago," he mentioned. "If you're lucky, he might be back. Want me to give him a call while I take your order up?"

One boy that had been sitting with her friends came up to her. When asked if she was who he thought she answered, "That's me." Shiki didn't smile like she usually did, just nodded. "Need something?" Though what he could need she didn't know.

Nami bounces in her seat, "Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase?" And then she adds. "Do you guys have crackers? I should eat something too, how about crackers?" She pokes Aqua and then frowns.
"And get blue here a vanilla shake too?"

Vaan sat down at the seat opposite of her, now that he was sure who she was he needed to come straight out with it. "I'm Vaan, Vaan Shepard. We both share a friend, maybe you remember him; Sora Shimomura."
