"How does that work?" I asked, staring at the utterly nonsensical words in front of me. "And what's it mean by 'ascension for the Otherborn' and the 'fall of humans'? Aren't those.... mutually exclusive?" I thought about it, but it was still making my brain hurt. "Sounds like something a nutcase would come up with... didn't think Sora was the type."

Vaan pulled out Sora's journal and looked up the page about Otherborn, as Neku and Lea were sitting there not really believing what was there Vaan cut in.
"Not according to Sora," he said after Neku finished, "he believes that Otherborn and human are actually different species, something about....ah, here: 'speaking in terms of medical is useless, because the supernatural powers themselves cannot be detected with modern medicine. So let me speak obviously, Otherborn are people whose DNA and structure have been so greatly altered that if there was a tool to detect it, you would be able to see great differences in the DNA strand, using a demonic medical tool I was able to see different proteins that do not exist in the Human DNA chain. To say Otherborns are humans are untrue, Otherborn is it's own species. I can assume the different proteins come from the Otherborn's heritage, whatever demon blood is down the line altered the human structure to what we call Otherborn'."
Vaan also looked up at Neku with a slight glare, "I don't care what kind of history you had with Sora, but since he's been right about everything so far...only an idiot would dismiss it so quickly, don't you think so?"

I thought for a moment. It did make sense; could Sora have found the breakthrough Shinra had been looking for his whole life? But it didn't matter now.
I said as much, shaking my head.
"It doesn't matter whether or not we're a different species, Vaan. Otherborn and humans are connected; we've co-existed snce the beginning of time. It hasn't been an easy relationship, but that's the way it is. And they've got us pretty much outnumbered. There's human forces who hate us and want to get rid of us; the survival of the Otherborn depends on our relationship with our human allies, and enemies."
Then I sighed. "But you're right about Sora. He's been right so far, which means one thing - we have to protect the LeBeaus and their fortune." I glanced over at Namine, wondering about her opinion on this, then shrugged. "And we have to protect the humans, whether we're human or not. That's what we do; it's what makes us better than demons."

Aqua listens to the news with an expression of shock, but then again she trusts Sora if what he says is true then Namine's family is a key factor in this... It worries the bluenette and she glances to the blond as well.
Namine turns her nose up, "Plah-ease! My family can handle themselves, they didn't get rich just from pure dumb luck ya know." Or so she claims. Beneath her exterior she is worrying, her mother may be psycho enough to keep most people at bay... But its her weak father that guards their living style... She chugs her coffee and snacks on a couple crackers. "Either way... If we aren't human then hell, screw it, I can totally work with this... May brake my daddy a bit, but whatever... Either way us Lebeaus don't need outside help...!" With that she kicks back in her chair, faking a relaxed posture as her mind runs a million miles per hour.
Aqua shakes her head at the childish acting woman.

Vaan frowned, leaning forward, "Namine, if Sora was so sure your fortune will be protected he wouldn't make such a huge effort to gather us all together and warn us. Please, just for safety's sake, lets just...I don't know, go to a bank or wherever your family's fortune is and just check. Please."

(Wresie is no longer lazy *bows head* bare with me, please?)
"Hey, back off, I'm supposed to be guiding you not the other way around," I shove back from the table and stand. "Bull shit to the maximum, why the hell should I trust Sora of all people? Huh? Asshole would do something like this, say something like this just to piss me off!"
My arms cross over my chest, "Besides, I can't just give you access, that's against policy." Turning my nose up at him I slide my body into profile and leer down at them all. "If you say I should trust someone I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw them? Then I can't trust you!" Drama queen or not, I'll be damned if I betray my father's trust in me, he's the only family member that's ever truly given a rat's ass about me! And I'm NOT letting some strung up, word junkie, logic bending, air blockingly adorable punk change my option now!
NUT-UH!

I sighed.
"Namine. If you can't trust him, will you at least show me that your money's okay? Just to be safe? Or check with your mom or something?" I'd heard some things about Nami's family in the last six months. It didn't exactly inspire confidence.

Neku may have been consoling Namine, but Vaan was beginning to feel the pressure. He shifted Namine's letter into view and began to read what exactly he wrote to her, after a quick read or two he stood up and walked to her.
"Are you sure it's the security of your money that you're angry about...or is that a guy who you, if I were to guess, thought who hated you when he all along respected you. You're probably mad because...because he never said those things to you, and those are things you wanted to hear. Namine, you want to hear him say those things to you, or maybe find him and yell at him for not saying these things to you, then we have to do this."
He paused, "Listen to me...talking like I know what's going on, yesterday I never heard of Otherborn or anything. So, I guess I shouldn't be preaching."
He moved in front of her and said, "If I have to get down on my knees and beg...then fine."
He did so, moving on both of his knees with his head bound. "Please...please...please help me get my friend back."

I had about to tear Neku a new one when Vaan spoke again, my teeth clench and I turn to him, a deep frown settling on my face. My hands falls to my side and curl into fists, "Do you ever, EVER bow like this before me, dammit! Fine, everyone important get your asses into gear! I've got a bank to check and a call to make!" Damn, stupid, jerk, jerk, jerk, jerk!
"And I'm not doing this because you begged me to! I'm doing this because..." I just growl and pull out my phone, slamming the keys as I take off for the door. "... I hate people like that...!" No one should ever submit to me like that, I'm not a tyrant, I am not Angel and I sure as hell ain't my mother!

Vaan stood up to full height, watching Namine leave angrily he sighed. "Well...it worked."
...In many ways than one.
As Namine was stepping outside, she left the Veil's protection...when she did the world shifted, a Crossing occurred - there was the same figure Riku encountered, a man clad in dark armor. Holding a bloody man in it's armored glove, the figure turned to Namine's presence.
When Namine dialed the number to call the bank, the man's phone simultaneously rang.

My feet stop dead in their tracks and my eyes narrow, "Great what kind of crap is this?" I snap my phone shut and cross my arms, shifting around and feeling comfort in the fact I remembered my knife again today. "I don't have time to play games!"

Lea came out of his seat, a low growl escaping his throat as his pupils became slits.
"I can sense it," he said under his breath. "There's a Crossing starting, just outside..."

"I know how you feel," Sophie said to her brother, who was staring at all the commotion over the letters.
"What are you talking about," Josh muttered.
Sophie gave him the 'Do I look dumb?' sort of look. "We arrive in a new place, where things aren't as normal as we had hoped; we meet a group of people and help them fight some...monsters...; and most of the night has been based around someone we don't even know. — 'Let's face it,' you're thinking. 'We don't belong here.' — And I sort of agree with you."
"Oh... How did you know?"
"The direction you're facing, the look on your face, the staring, and the fact that I'm your twin. We can almost always feel each other's feeling."
Josh knew she was right. Whenever he had gotten hurt at football practice, Sophie had often come home from the Coffee Cup with bruises that she'd never remembered getting. He felt a little embarrassed that what he was thinking was blantly obvious. He got up, and headed for the door, a few moments after Namine.
"Where are you going," Sophie asked him as she stood up and followed him.
"It's like you said, 'we don't belong.' So, I'm heading home."
"What? Do you even know where we are?"
"No, but how hard should it be to find our house?"
"What about earlier," Sophie recalled. They had gotten lost just trying to find Main Street.
The twins opened the door, stepped out, and fell silent as Namine sort of yelled.
"I don't have times to play games!"

Vaan's ears perked up once he heard Lea mention something about a Crossing, he quickly shot to his feet and ran outside: joining the twins as they passed into the Crossing.
"You two, what..." he looked ahead and saw the armored figure and Namine. The figure holding a dead body got Vaan's senses firing red hot, there was trouble.
"Hey!" he yelled, running in front of Namine - acting as a shield. "Hey get away from her!"
The figure studied Vaan and scoffed, "A human. In a Crossing...we have a phrase for that - dead man walking."
"Who are you?!" Vaan demanded.
"I am an Arbiter of the Otherborn," he reached down and picked up a USB drive from the man's pocket. "And on behalf of the Otherborns everywhere, we thank the Lebeau family for a generous contribution."
Vaan looked at the USB drive and gasped, "Is that-"
"No...not all of it." the Arbiter responded, "But a good amount, we'll be collecting the rest of it later."
Vaan clenched his fist, "Not if I have anything to say about it!"
The Arms reacted and his broadsword appeared in a flash of light, "I won't let you take their money!"
