Going for a "walk" [Closed]

[Shiki]

"Damon," he answered simply. "Xion...unusual name." He shrugged, "But anyway, you ready?"

[Xion]

I nodded but pondered a little bit on what he meant by my name being "odd". Yeah, my name was an on spot name so I know technically what he meant. They weren't exactly planning on having twins... or at least me.

"Yes I am. Thank you Damon, I don't think I can say it enough." I took the cup and stood up and held it towards him, "It was yours. And If you're helping me, you might as well have the money back..."

[Shiki]

Damon chuckled, "Then don't. I can do without it, I'm not big on praise." As soon as the cup was held out to him he pushed it back. He listened to what she said, but shook his head, "Keep it. Think of it as pocket money. Or just save it for when you really need it in the future."

He waved his hand in gesture to show the rest of the street, "Let's take a walk."

[Xion]

I nodded at him and smiled, but I already had a question as I started walking, "Um... I figure the money is worth more depending on the number but, how to you know which coins are worth more?" I gritted my teeth with a "sorry I'm asking dumb questions" look on my face.

[Shiki]

He took notice of the look on her face, "There was a time when I didn't know this stuff either. It's not a big deal." Damon thought about how to explain it, "Each coin has a different name and with that name it also has a number. It's just a memorization process. That's the way I learned it at least."

[Xion]

I started at a couple coins that some people threw in before Damon had talked to me. Most of them were copper so I picked one of the copper coins up and held it up, "Just based on how many people willingly gave up, this is worth the least?"

[Shiki]

"Yeah, one cent. You're not going to be able to buy anything with just that." He pulled out a few different coins for her to look at, "The names are on the back. Quarter is twenty five cents, a dime ten, and a nickel five."

[Xion]

I looked at the back and saw the names, I picked up one of the quarters and saw that it said "Quarter Dollar" so I assumed that the dollar 'bill' was bigger than the coins. I didn't bother checking because my gut told me I was right. Then an odd question came to my head, which I asked without thinking.

"How exactly did you learn how to write?"

[Shiki]

There was a slight hesitation, a debate almost between answers. His facial expression didn't change and neither did the speed of his step. He was quick to fill in the pause with a response, "My mother taught me, mostly. It was a long time ago, back when I guess we would be considered kids in our lifespan. She was adamant that I knew how."

[Xion]

I chuckled almost immediately at his response, not to be rude, although it could be taken that way, it was more at her circumstances she was laughing at. "My mother and father never taught me anything... I had to learn what I know on my own, but if we're talking about lifespans. I'm an infant, Fifteen years..."

Probably longer than wanted anyway, I whispered away from Damon's direction. Then I turned immediately to him, "This is going to sound odd but... I need clothing... I kind of... freaked out in a hospital... grabbed my cloak and ran..."

[Shiki]

He grinned, "Damn, Xi, you make me sound old!" Then he toned it down to a smile, wistful almost, "Heh, if I didn't know how to tie my shoes I was in trouble. My father was even worse about me learning..."

Damon looked at her as she explained about the hospital, "Nah, I know someone who won't get thirty feet near one if she can help it. You get hurt?"

[Xion]

I got quiet at Damon's last question and shook my head, "No... I was with a couple of humans and I passed out... I figure you'd probably understand it but, I'm a Bio-unis demon... it means I share the same life as someone else. Me and my brother are the same person, when he's awake I go unconscious, when he's unconscious I'm awake. But if we are near each other we can both be awake... because I was split with him at birth... we have a stranger way of dealing with this problem... the one marked the stronger one gets full life."

I grinned sadly at him and looked away, "Guess who's the weaker demon of the pair...."

[Shiki]

He never felt he was good at consoling people, in fact he knew he wasn't. There weren't many times where he actually did. This time however he gave it a shot, placing a hand on her shoulder, "I'm used to being the strong guy, so I can't tell you that I know exactly how you feel. But you're no lesser demon, so by my law you have the right to live your own life. Your brother can't live without you though if you share an existence right? You count for something. I'm not going to tell you all that stuff about weaker ones overcoming everything in case it would turn out to be a bunch of bull in your case."

[Xion]

I wasn't expecting any attempts to make me feel better, so it was a shock to me when he put a hand on my shoulder and spoke his words, I smiled at him genuinely and replied, "Thanks, it's the first time I ever heard someone say I count for something."

I was quiet for a moment, "But that brings up the passing out issue. I don't exactly have full control over when he decides to wake up."

[Shiki]

"Fight it then." Damon looked to her, "If you can't have him wake up where you are, then use willpower against him." He shrugged, "He can't be conscious if you're the one awake. Might give you more time to find somewhere to crash."
