The scenery was a bit less disturbed than usual in this realm of fire and rocks and shattered-mirror scenes.
The Veil was weak, here, he thought, tapping one booted foot against the ground, arms crossed as he watched the shifting, chaotic scenery of the Otherworld. His eyes surveyed his domain, twisted and scorched though it was, and a small smirk crossed his face. He had done well, to secure it for himself. It pleased him - and that was the most important thing of all.
A messenger imp crossed the invisible boundary into his territory. He didn't bother to turn towards it.
It leaped to his shoulder. "Master! The human's device is ready, and the army is gathered, at your request, Master."
His smirk widened, and he turned. Sizing up the group (who looked both eager, and terrified - rightfully so, he thought, even more pleased - at the prospect of Crossing), he pointed to one.
"You there."
"Yes, Master?" Probably its entire vocabulary, he thought. It didn't look incredibly powerful - just strong. But then, in chess, the pawns go first, to draw out the most powerful pieces.
One of the few human inventions he enjoyed. The most recent one....
He felt something snap, as though this area were locked down, and a shimmering vision of order appeared behind him.
His smirk became a sadistic grin.
"Serve me well."
"Yes, master!" barked the lesser demon, and stepped through the shimmering hole in the fabric of the world.
Yes. Humans did have some... interesting ideas from time to time...

Meanwhile, on the other side...
Lea was taking the back way home that night. It wasn't a complicated route, and the Labyrinth was deserted.
....well. Deserted except for him, and the demon who'd picked tonight to Cross into reality.
He growled to himself (work had not gone well), and charged towards the area affected by the Crossing....

I was walking home when I noticed the world begin to distort. Another crossing. I grew aggrivated because of the number of crossings lately. I pulled out my two pistols from my leg holsters and walked into the madness, knowing I'd be drawn in eventually.
That is when I noticed Lea. "Tough day?" I asked, being sure that my presence is known so I don't end up hit by whatever he does in a fight.

"You have no idea."
The air around him was sparking; he saw the demon coming forward, large, menacing, and stupid, and he growled a challenge that the demon returned.
There was a snapping sound; a small flame ignited next to his fist, which shortly thereafter appeared to catch on fire.
Lea in a bad mood was not the kind of person someone in their right mind messes with.
Realizing that he was starting to lose control, he clamped down on his abilities - he didn't want to go and injure Aya by accident and ruin his chances of friendship with the other Halfer. Such things had happened before.

I watched his hands as they slowly went aflame. It's fairly normal for otherborns to possess powers like pyrokinesis but it still shocked me everytime I see it. I turned to the demon and raised my weapons, waiting for it to make the first move. The demon looked between the two of us, probably trying to decide who to go after first.
"Hard to believe my mom was something like this, except you know, sane, smart, powerful. " My mom oddly did seem the saner of my parents so it's always strange for me to see blood thirsty demons.
When the demon finally started to charge towards us, I began shooting and moved out of the way, barely making it. I looked over at Lea to see if he was ok.

"Trust me," he growled, claws unsheathed, ready for battle. "I have no problem imagining my dad as a monster."
He leaped forward, flames swirling around him. Unlike most Otherborn with the ability that he knew, he didn't have any form of fine manipulation of his fire. It just... came, and he directed it towards whatever needed to be burned.
At that point, it was the demon.
It turned towards him, momentarily distracted from Aya's bullets by the fiery figure leaping at him, and its grotesque face twisted into a parody of a smile.
Proving its master wrong about its vocabulary, it spoke. "Yes," it growled, "at last!"
And then it swung one massive claw at Lea, knocking him out of the way. It suffered some burns for its trouble, but didn't seem to care.

I winced when I saw Lea get hurt. I continued to shoot because I didn't have much of another choice. The demon though still stayed preoccupied by Lea though. My mind raced thinking about how to get the demons attention when finally I reached into my jacket and threw an empty ammo case at it's head as hard as I could. The demon looked over at me with a glare which sent chills down my spine and it took almost everything not to take a step away from the demon.

"RRRRRAAARRRGHHHH!" it roared, charging towards Aya and swinging its massive claws. "FILTHY HALF-BLOOD! AXEL IS MINE!"
It swiped at her.
Meanwhile, Lea, shaking his head and attempting to regain his footing (and not succeeding, yet), looked up sharply at the demon's words and growled low in his throat.

Axel? Who's Axel? I didn't have much time to contemplate it though seeing as the demon started to come towards me and managed to strike my shoulder. I tried to ignore the pain seeing as I could easily heal it after the fight was over.
The demon kept coming towards me and I began to shoot again while trying to get back as far as I could until I hit a wall. I looked around and grabbed the top of a garbage can lid and used it as a shield against another swipe. It won't last too long but hopefully long enough for me to find a way out of my predicament.

"Hey, ugly!"
A ball of fire hit the demon on the side of the head; Lea had gotten up, and he looked pissed.
"My name," he yelled, sending another fireball at the demon, "is Lea!"
He charged forward, sending a blast of flame at the foe, whose focus was now, once again, completely on Lea.

It was supposed to be a pretty standard day for me. Get home from my newly acquired job, go far a small stroll with sword in hand or head to the The Veil. However that little routine was interrupted by the strong sense I got of a number of emotions; fear, pain and anger. Luckily my abilities were honed enough to zero in on the source and I quickly made my way towards it, twisting through the backstreets of the Labyrinth until I stepped right into the effect of a Crossing.
The world twisted and warped before my eyes as I continued further towards the source until I finally laid eyes on a very large and very ugly demon. In front of it I could see two familiar figures and quickly pulled the sword from its place on my back before darting forward. "Need a little help?" I remarked to them with the normal grin on my face.

That guy was an Otherborn? Somehow, Lea realized, he shouldn't be surprised.
He turned to Zack, his full Halfer nature showing in the slit pupils of his eyes and his drawn claws. "If you can stand to work with a Halfer? Help would be nice."
At that moment, a large demon claw swung at him, and he had to roll away.
"Dammit! This is my best uniform! Tifa's gonna kill me...." he groaned.

I saw fire at the side of the demon's head and heard Lea yell. As the demon turned to him, I got up slowly and picked up one of my guns that had dropped and aimed for it's head when Zack yelled out. I quickly said "Yes please!" I looked over at Lea and his demonic side was showing through.
I continued to shoot at the demon. "I think the uniform is the least of your problems right now Lea!"

"I disagree!" he called back, sending a wave of flame towards the enemy demon. "You've obviously never seen Tifa in a snit!"
Their foe roared again. "PATHETIC HUMANS!" it yelled, leaping at Zack, this time. "The Master will destroy you all!"

I had to admit that I was surprised to see that Lea wasn't quite human though I couldn't say it bothered me, the guy seemed friendly enough anyway so I just gave him a nod and focused my attention on the fight. I looked around, trying to find the best way to attack for a close range fighter like myself while Lea commented on Tifa's temper. However, Ugly chose that moment to leap at me. "Whoa!" I exclaimed before leaping to the side in order to get out of the way. "Think you can distract it for a bit?" I asked Aya and Lea, I hoped that I could get around behind Ugly and deal a good blow.
