"Dunno if we ever have. Mr. H would probably be disappointed in me." I chuckled.

"Yeah he would. Better make up for it then, huh?" Shiki winked and giggled.

"We'd better," I said with a smile, ordering us a refill of what we'd previously ordered.
I leaned back in my chair, taking a deep breath. "So, then, Shiki, ou met the old man 'cause he took you in, right?"

She nodded, "Mhm, that's what happened. Unfortunately in the beginning I really wanted nothing to do with him. Took me a few weeks to finally warm up to him and start talking."
Shiki thought about it and laughed softly, "I think I was the wrong kind of stubborn back then."

I laughed.
"Sounds like him alright... sounds exactly like what happened with me. It took quite a while for me to open up to him, but, when I did, he didn't seem to care how much or litle I'd trusted him in the past. He's jsut that kinda guy."

"That used to relieve me so much. Still does in a way."
Shiki thought back,"There are a lot of things that he laughed off with me. Hope if I mess up in the future and he shows up it'll be that way again."

"I hope it'll be that way again for me too. I mean... his best student and what turns out to be true about me?" I shrugged. "Heh, seems like he goes after the same types of people."

"Maybe he does." Shiki asked, "You were his student?"

I nodded. "He was second-in-command of the Organization, pretty much; he found me and took me in, taught me about what being an Otherborn meant. He's the one who convinced me to try and become Head."

She nodded, "Well looks like he accomplished what he was hoping for in both of us. Sheesh this guy is a miracle worker!" The way she said it was cheerful and amused and she laughed.

I chuckled. "I'm half-convinced the guy's an angel. Did you know what his power was?"

Shiki shook her head, "He never really told me straight out. I'm gonna guess you know?"

I nodded. "He eventually told me. He can see the future... usually it's little glimpses or insight into people's lives, sometimes even the past or present, but usually things that might happen if things go on the way they're going. Sometimes he gets visions of important events without trying - things he's either supposed to prevent or make happen, according to him."
I sighed. "I never really got most of what he said, but that was how it was supposed to work. He said when he retired he was tired of grasping at straws for people who didn't care anyway..."

"Well...he did his best, you know? Some people don't care, some can't handle bad news, and some would rather other people take care of it instead." Shiki shrugged sadly, "What can you really do if no one wants to listen? That had to be frustrating though."

I nodded.
"I think he honestly just needed to get out of Urbadelphia for a while, and that's why he retired to another district," I speculated. "Even he was getting tired of how active it is here. They'd almost broken his spirit, the old leadership, I mean, before I showed up. He still hasn't' told me what it is he saw in my future that made him pick me to become his protege. And now that I know what I know, part of me is worried as to why."
