Wildkat's been one of my favorite hangouts since it was still owned by Mr. H, so I brought Shiki there and ordered myself my customary white cocoa. Then I turned to her to ask for her order.
"They've got a lotta good stuff here, though I'm sure you've been here before," I said with a smile.

"It's a great place," she answered and ordered a dark choclate frappe. "Not to mention it's close by to where I live, so that's a plus."

I paid with the Network's tab and went to sit at a far corner table where we wouldn't be overheard or bothered.
"So, then... I guess we start with the unrelated chatter, huh? I hear the Mets lost last week."

Shiki took a seat and leaned back, crossing her legs and placing her cup on the table. "Did they? I don't keep up with baseball much. Is it a surprise or expected?"

"I don't either, but it was pretty expected I think." I chuckled. "Any sports you do like? Read any good books lately?"

"Not really a sports person, honestly," she smiled and then ducked her head and gave a small laugh, "Would you believe me if I said I was a little bit of a bookworm?"

"Yeah, I would," I said with a smile. "Would you believe me if I said that I was?"

She raised an eyebrow and grinned, "Nuh uh, really? I wouldn't expect that."

I nodded. "Nami's on my case for it all the time, calls it nerdy." I laughed. "To be honest, though, I like books because... well, at least in books, it's somebody else's crazy."

"Yeah, I can see that. I prefer nonfiction, I get a lot of 'fiction' in my life anyway, you know?" She took her cup in her hand, "Oddly enough learning what's happened in the world appeals to me more. But I don't mind the other stuff. Just don't ever throw a romance novel my way."

I rolled my eyes. "Don't raid Namine's collection, then. She doesn't read anything but romances and poorly-written smut, with the occasional dash of well-written smut on the side."

"Tried it once." She smacked a hand to her forehead, "Never. Again." And then she took a sip of her drink.

I sighed, took a drink of my cocoa. "I love the cocoa here, but it's nowhere near as good as when Mr. H ran the place. Two years of his coffee and chocolate spoiled me... two years later and I'm just starting to get used to how everyone else makes it again."

She tilted her head to the side, "He ran it?" Pausing for thought she then nodded, "Makes a lot more sense now. He always did seem like a busy person."

I nodded. "Up until two years ago, this place was a.... well, it wasn't Network back then, but, it was an Organization safehouse. But Mr. H packed up and left when he left me in charge. He sold it to the people who run it right now, see."
